♦ Opened the year with Frederick but made just three starts before landing on the disabled list with thoracic outlet syndrome, caused by compression of veins or nerves from the neck to below the shoulder.
♦ Made seven rehab appearances with the GCL Orioles (from 7/17 - 8/4) and Aberdeen (8/9 - 8/15) before returning to Frederick to end the season.
♦ Posted a 3.27 ERA (4 ER, 11.0 IP) over three starts with Frederick to end his campaign.
2017
♦ Spent the season with Class-A Frederick, where he went 4-5 with a 5.90 ERA in 20 starts.
♦ Earned his first professional victory in his first start of the season, 4/8 vs. Carolina.
♦ Opened the year 3-0 with a 1.64 ERA over his first four starts, allowing 10 hits while striking out 16 over 22.0 innings.
♦ Set professional career-high with seven strikeouts in a win at Carolina, 5/5.
♦ Allowed three earned runs or less in 13 of his 20 starts, but surrendered six earned runs or more in four outings.
♦ After the season, rated by Baseball America as the #7 prospect in the O's organization.
2016
♦ Began his professional career in the Orioles organization with Class-A Aberdeen, posting a 3.67 ERA over nine starts. Pitched 3.0 innings in each of his nine outings, allowing more than one hit in just three appearances.
♦ Limited New York-Penn League batters to a .158 average, as he registered nine more strikeouts (25) than hits allowed (16) in 27.0 innings pitched.
PERSONAL
♦ Selected by Baltimore in the 1st round (27th overall) of the 2016 draft.
♦ Was drafted out of the University of Illinois and became the third Illini player to be drafted in the 1st round - and the first since Tyler Jay in 2015. Set the Illini single-season record for strikeouts (116) and was named Big Ten Pitcher of the Year in 2016. Majored in plant biotechnology while at Illinois.
♦ Named First Team All-America by Baseball America, Second Team All-America by D1Baseball.com and Third Team All-America by the ABCA after his junior season at Illinois.
♦ Graduated from Alleman Catholic High School (IL) where he went 8-1 with a 1.57 ERA and 76 strikeouts during his senior season while batting .377 with 13 doubles and 33 RBI.
