The Tampa Bay Rays announced on Tuesday they have signed right-handed pitcher Drew Rasmussen to a two-year contract extension for the 2025 and 2026 seasons, with a club option for 2027. The 29-year-old has made appearances with the Bulls during portions of the 2021 and 2024 campaigns, the latter as part of an MLB Rehab Assignment, after being acquired by Tampa Bay during the 2021 season.

In his four seasons with the Rays, Washington native has compiled a 19-11 record and 2.72 ERA (278.1 IP) across 72 outings (50 starts), adding 255 strikeouts. He missed portions of the 2023 and 2024 campaigns after a hybrid internal brace procedure of the ulnar collateral ligament on July 24, 2023 before returning to Tampa Bay on August 7, 2024. Primarily used as a reliever, Rasmussen tallied an 0-2 clip and 2.83 ERA (28.2 IP) in 16 appearances (four starts), adding 35 strikeouts compared to six walks.
Over 13 combined outings (three starts) with Durham, Rasmussen has recorded a 2-2 mark and 3.38 ERA (18.2 IP), adding 31 strikeouts. He appeared in five games, including two starts, during the 2024 season as part of an MLB Rehab Assignment in his return for his 2023 surgery.

The right-hander has accumulated a 20-12 record and 2.95 ERA (310.2 IP) over his 99 career Major League outings (50 starts) between Tampa Bay and Milwaukee. He was acquired by the Rays from the Brewers in a May 21, 2021 trade along with right-hander J.P. Feyereisen in exchange for infielder Willy Adames and right-hander Trevor Richards.
Following a three-game road series in Norfolk, Durham begins their 2025 campaign at Durham Bulls Athletic Park on Tuesday, April 1 with a six-game homestand versus the defending Triple-A National Champion Sugar Land Space Cowboys, the Triple-A affiliate of the Houston Astros.
