Prince George's Stadium

Prince George's Stadium is the home of the Baltimore Orioles' Double-A affiliate in the Eastern League, the Bowie Baysox.

The stadium, originally slated to open at the start of the 1994 season, did not open until June 16, 1994, because of construction delays due to poor weather. Its capacity for baseball is listed at 10,000, but when the Double-A All-Star Game was held there in 2000, the attendance was about 14,000. The 2002 Major League Lacrosse All-Star Game was held at the stadium.

While the stadium was being finished, the Baysox played one full season (1993) at Baltimore's Memorial Stadium and a few series in 1994 at fields belonging to the United States Naval Academy in Annapolis, and the University of Maryland, College Park, as well as the minor league stadiums of the Frederick Keys and Wilmington(DE) Blue Rocks.

Prince George's Stadium is located near the intersection of U.S. Route 301 and U.S. Route 50 in Bowie, MD. In addition to its primary function as the home of the Orioles' Class AA Minor League Baseball Affiliate, it has been host to the Double-A Baseball All-Star Game (2000), the Eastern League All-Star Game (2004), the "Congressional Baseball Game" for charity, and multiple Allen Iverson Celebrity Softball Classic events featuring NBA, NFL and Entertainment stars including Lebron James, Carmelo Anthony, Steve Francis, Vivica A. Fox, Patti Labelle and many more. The stadium also hosted the 2002 MLL Lacrosse All-Star Game, the 2008 USA Women's Olympic Softball team featuring Jennie Finch and concerts including a tour stop by Bob Dylan & Willie Nelson. The stadium also hosted some of Bowie State University Homecoming conerts where performers included Ludacris, Ne-Yo and Remy Ma. Prince George's Stadium also served as the home of the D.C. Forward, the city's Pro Cricket team in 2004 and hosted 10 years of Tulip Gulch Productions' Halloween Haunted House Events.

Due to its close proximity to several local military bases including Fort George G. Meade, Andrews Air Force Base and the United States Naval Academy, the stadium is also regularly the site of related promotions involving enlisted persons. For example, June 14, 2007, 5,000 Baysox tickets were distributed to soldiers to celebrate Flag Day with professional wrestler Sergeant Slaughter. The 2019 season marked the 20th annual "Navy Night" at the Baysox in which the Baysox donate 5,000 tickets to active Navy personnel and their families from around the region. The 2019 event saw the total number of tickets donated to Navy personnel reach the 100,000 mark. In addition to the Navy personnel, the Baysox also welcome the Plebe Summer Class from the United States Naval Academy to the ballpark for Navy Night each season.

Prince George's Stadium and the Bowie Baysox were featured in the January 30, 2007 episode ("Well Digger") of the hit Discovery Channel show Dirty Jobs where Baltimore native and show host Mike Rowe performed a variety of jobs around the ballpark including mowing the field, grooming the infield dirt and warning track, learning to slide into second base and singing the National Anthem [Watch Video Here].

The 2015 season was by far the most successful season on the field in Baysox franchise history as the team would go on to win its first ever playoff series, defeating the Altoona Curve three games to one in the Western Division Championship Series. The Baysox would then face the Reading Fightin' Phils in the Eastern League Championship Series and would capture their first ever Eastern League Championship as they defeated Reading three games to two in a thrilling series. The Baysox won the championship at home in front of an energetic and celebratory crowd on Saturday, September 19, 2015.

In 2017, the Baysox would celebrate the team's 25th Season in team history by returning to the Eastern League Playoffs once again under Manager Gary Kendall's tutelage. The team would finish with a 72-68 record and in second place to the Altoona Curve in the Eastern League's Western Division. Baysox Utility player Garabez Rosa would be voted the Eastern League MVP after playing in 124 games, hitting .310 with 14 HRs, 91 RBIs and 162 hits. Rosa led the league in Hits, RBIs and Batting Average and was third in runs scored, and second in total bases. Rosa was the third player in team history to be named Eastern League MVP (Calvin Pickering - 1998; Lou Montanez - 2008).

The Eastern League changed the format for the 2019 season, splitting the season into two halves. The winners of each half would reach the league playoffs. The 2019 season started out abysmally for the Baysox and rookie Double-A Manager Buck Britton as they began the season 4-17. On June 1, the Baysox were 19-35, a season low 16 games below .500. Following that start, the Baysox got hot, finishing the first half with a 30-38 record. At one point, the team won 30 of 38 games. They started the second half 19-5 and would go on to win the Western Division's second half title, earning a berth in the league playoffs. They would face Harrisburg in the first round, eliminating them in four games, and going on to play for the Eastern League Championship for the second time in four years. This time, they would come up short, losing to Trenton three games to one.

Due to the Coronavirus Pandemic, the 2020 Bowie Baysox season and the entire 2020 Minor League Baseball season was cancelled for the first time in Minor League Baseball history. While no Baysox games were played in 2020, the stadium hosted the Baltimore Orioles taxi squad with over 30 players and coaches keeping ready in case they were needed as players for the 2020 Baltimore Orioles.
