Burlington, NC - The Burlington Royals (4-15) won their second consecutive game Sunday afternoon, with a 4-2 victory over the Greeneville Reds (5-12).
The Royals got a tremendous start from Austin Cox, who struck out nine in five innings, only allowing one run. Cox has now struck out 23 batters in 11 and two-thirds innings of work this year.
With Greeneville leading the game 1-0 in the bottom of the sixth inning, Burlington scored twice to take the lead, thanks to four walks and a hit by pitch. The two runs came in to score on an RBI hit by pitch for Colby Schultz and an RBI walk for Montae Bradshaw.
The B-Royals added insurance in the seventh inning, when Chris Hudgins singled in Rhett Aplin, and Bradshaw picked up his second RBI of the game on a single, scoring Hudgins.
After Marlin Willis got the Royals eight outs in relief, Kyle Hinton recorded the final four to earn the save and Burlington the 4-2 win.
With the win, the Royals clinch a series victory over Greeneville and will go for a sweep Monday night. First pitch from Burlington Athletic Stadium will be at 7:00 p.m.
The Burlington Royals are the Appalachian League affiliate of the Kansas City Royals.
