WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - Ronnie Gideon's solo home run in the second inning accounted for all of Carolina's scoring in a 5-1 loss to the Dash on Sunday afternoon at BB&T Ballpark. Winston-Salem scored four runs in the third, before adding one more in the eighth while finishing off a series sweep of the Mudcats.

Gideon's solo home run in the second was the first hit of the game for either team and was his sixth homer of the year. It came against Dash (32-25) starter Dylan Cease and lifted the Mudcats (27-29) into an early 1-0 lead in Sunday's series finale in Winston-Salem.
Carolina's 1-0 lead quickly disappeared though as the Dash rallied for four runs and four hits in the third while taking a 4-1 lead on starter Braden Webb and the Mudcats.
Webb (3-4, 4.50) originally started the game by totaling four strikeouts over two perfect frames before giving up a solo home run to Zach Remillard to start the third inning. The home run tied the game at 1-1, but the Dash kept their second inning rally going as Yeyson Yrizzari reached on a walk, Mickey Duarte singled his way on with a bunt and Joel Booker broke the tie with a run scoring double. Webb then went on to allow a RBI single to Mitch Roman and a sacrifice fly from Luis Basabe plated one more as the Dash took a 4-1 lead in the game.
The four run and four hit third was the only frame where Webb found any problems with the Dash lineup. Webb went on to pitch through six full innings and finished with eight strikeouts against just two walks. He allowed four hits in the third, but just six hits overall while taking the loss
Cease (7-2, 2.81), meanwhile, earned the win for the Dash after holding Carolina to just one hit and one run over six innings pitched. He also walked two and struck out five while earning his seventh win of the season. Relievers Danny Dopico, Mike Morrison and Matt Foster all followed Cease and combined to allow just one hit over three scoreless frames.
Relievers Daniel Brown and Nattino Diplan worked the final two frames for the Mudcats and combined to limit the Dash to an unearned run and just one hit the rest of the way.
The Mudcats started the road trip winning two of three in Lynchburg, but ended up losing all three games in Winston-Salem while going 2-4 during the trip. Carolina was held to just six combined hits over their three games against the Dash at BB&T Ballpark.
Carolina is off on Monday and will return to action again on Tuesday, June 5 at Five County Stadium against the Down East Wood Ducks. Tuesday's game will begin at 7:00 p.m. and will feature Taco Tuesday and $1.00 tacos on the Five County Stadium concourse. The game will air on the Mudcats Radio Network, the Big Dawg 98.5 FM and via TuneIn Radio at carolinamudcats.com. It will also stream via live video on MiLB.tv.
