Win Streaks Ends at Six with 8-3 Loss

KANNAPOLIS – Jose Sibrian extended his hitting streak to eight games with a RBI single in the sixth, Robert Moore went 2-for-3 with a RBI double in the third while running his hitting streak to six straight, but the Carolina Mudcats saw their six-game winning streak come to an end after an 8-3 loss to the Kannapolis Cannon Ballers at Atrium Health Ballpark on Tuesday night.

Carolina (27-22, 61-54) starter Fernando Olguin took the loss after allowing four runs on four hits in the first and four runs on five hits in the fourth. The Kannapolis (25-24, 51-64) first included a three-run home run from Jacob Burke, while the four run fourth included a home run from Logan Glass and a Troy Claunch two-run double. In all, Olguin (2-3) struck out four, and allowed eight runs (seven earned) on 10 hits over four innings.

Relievers Miguel Segura and Trevor Tietz worked the remainder of the game with Segura tossing a scoreless fifth, and Tietz striking out six over a scoreless sixth, seventh and eighth. For Segura the scoreless appearance was first since July 29. Tietz, meanwhile, was in his first game back with the Mudcats since May 29 after spending time in the Arizona Complex League.

The Carolina offense managed just one run off starter Jonah Scolaro as he went through five innings with three hits, three walks and seven strikeouts. Moore had that lone RBI hit as his double in the third off Scolaro (1-1) brought in Hendry Mendez. Sibrian later brought in the final runs of the game after connecting a two-run single off reliever Tristan Stivors.

The loss, combined with a Fredericksburg Nationals victory versus the Down East Wood Ducks, dropped the Mudcats to 3.5 games back of the first place FredNats in the Carolina League North second half standings. Only 17 games remain this season.
