The 23-year-old led off the bottom of the fifth with a laser shot over the left field railing. The homer adds to Lagrange's impressive start to the second half. The Dominican native is hitting .364 since the all-star break, and is tied for the team lead in RBIs (12) since play has resumed. Even with Lagrange's long ball, the Fireflies fell to the Drive, 10-4.
Greenville (6-7, 38-45) knuckleballer Kevin Biondic (W, 3-0) recorded the win for the Drive. The righty allowed nine hits in five innings, yet only surrendered three runs in the outing. However, Columbia (6-7, 30-49) had its fair share of chances to put more runs on the board. The Fireflies left 13 men on base in the game. Nine of those runners were stranded in bases-loaded situations in the first, second and eighth innings.
Columbia starter Christian James (L, 2-7) fell victim to some bad defensive luck. A pair of errors between the first two innings brought home four unearned runs for the Drive. Greenville scored all 10 of their runs in the first three innings of the game. After the third, Columbia pitchers retired 18 of the final 22 Drive batters they faced.
Oddly enough, the Fireflies out-hit Greenville, 12-10. Hayden Senger tallied three base hits and drove in a run. Ronny Mauricio and Mark Vientos each recorded a pair of hits.
Even Danny Hrbek got in on the action. Columbia's relief pitcher was sent to the plate after an injury sidelined Juan Uriarte. As a result, Senger was forced to step out of his DH role and take over catching duties. Hrbek singled in his first plate appearance and became the first Fireflies pitcher to record a base hit in a game.
