Yankees top Braves in series opener

DANVILLE, Va. - The Braves returned to Danville Sunday after a six game road trip and dropped an afternoon contest against the Pulaski Yankees 8-3. The loss snapped a modest three game win streak for the Braves and gave the Yankees their first win in the last five games.

Pulaski spread its offense out over the course of the game, scoring three runs in the second inning, two in the third, one in the fifth, and two in the six. Yankees first baseman Tim Lynch went three-for-four on the afternoon, with three RBI, two doubles, a triple, a walk, and a run scored.

The Braves put up three runs in the losing effort Sunday, with two in the second and one in the fifth. Elias Arias connected for an RBI triple in the bottom of the second to score two runs and cut the score to 3-2 at the time, but the Yankees would claim a 6-2 advantage before the Braves scored again. In the bottom of the fifth, Ramon Osuna delivered an RBI double to score Brett Cumberland and make the score 6-3, but the Yankees put up two more runs in the following inning to grow the lead to five, 8-3.

Osuna went two-for-four for the Braves with two doubles and an RBI to extend his hit streak to seven games and tally his fourth straight game with at least one RBI.

Two Braves made impressive Danville debuts Sunday afternoon after being promoted from the GCL. Crisitan Pache went three-for-four with a run scored, while Derian Cruz went two-for-five.

On the mound for the Braves, Luis Gamez pitched 1.2 innings and exited the game in the second after showing some discomfort on the mound. Gamez allowed three runs - one earned - and struck out two. Danville used four relievers - Cameron Stanton (2.1 IP), Taylor Cockrell (1.2 IP), Dalton Carroll (2.1 IP), and Zach Rice (1.0 IP) - to wrap up the ballgame.

The Braves defense committed four errors on the afternoon, resulting in four unearned runs.

Danville will look to even the series Monday night at 7pm. It will be Dollar Night at Legion Field, where fans can purchase hot dogs, popcorn, and souvenir sodas for just $1 apiece.
