DAYTON, Ohio – Dayton Dragons MVP Student Karson will throw out the ceremonial first pitch on Wednesday night before the Dragons take on the Fort Wayne TinCaps at Day Air Ballpark in the heart of the Water Street District.

A fifth-grade student at Arcanum Elementary, Karson was born with symbrachydactyly, a congenital hand anomaly which affects a single upper limb. This is characterized by short, stiff, webbed, or missing fingers.

Karson’s mother, Megan, learned six months into her pregnancy that her umbilical cord had wrapped around Karson’s left hand.

From a very young age, it was apparent Karson’s abnormality would not slow him, or his love for sports.

After lots of practice and inspiration from Jim Abbott, the great one-handed pitcher formerly with the New York Yankees and California Angels, Karson learned how to tuck his baseball glove under his left armpit to compete against his peers on the baseball diamond.

Karson serves as an all-star pitcher and first baseman for his 12U Arcanum baseball team. He also excels at soccer and football. In his free time, Karson enjoys drawing and playing Fortnite with his friends and brother.

Karson’s family and friends will be present to take part in the pregame festivities. The ceremonial first pitch will take place between 6:30 pm - 6:55 pm.

On behalf of the Dayton Dragons MVP Program, Karson will be recognized for his athletic accomplishments and courage during Wednesday’s Dragons game.
