Fluor Field Hosts HBCU Classic on Friday

Benedict and Claflin face off at 7:00 PM
April 10, 2016

Greenville, SC - On Friday, the Greenville Drive and Michelin will team up to honor the storied legacy of Jackie Robinson, who broke baseball's color barrier, and to celebrate the importance and value of diversity, by hosting the HBCU Classic at Fluor Field.

Two of South Carolina's historically black colleges and universities will take part in the contest, as the Benedict College Tigers and the Claflin University Panthers square off at 7:00 PM. General admission tickets for the game are $8.

"To bring the HBCU Classic back to Fluor Field in 2016 is a highlight for the Greenville Drive and Michelin." said Drive General Manager Eric Jarinko. "The baseball programs at Benedict College and Claflin University are carrying on Jackie Robinson's legacy each and every day, and we are thrilled to welcome them both to Downtown Greenville for this game to honor everything Jackie Robinson did for the game of baseball."

Prior to the first pitch, fans can enjoy pregame activities and entertainment when the Fluor Field gates open at 6:00 PM. During the contest, the Drive will communicate the importance of diversity by recognizing local champions of diversity in the community and playing fun between-inning games.

Following the game, fans can stick around to enjoy Fluor Field's famous Friday Night Fireworks show.

"Commemorating Jackie Robinson's historic debut provides an opportunity to share with the next generation the importance of diversity both on the field and in society," said Leesa Owens, Michelin's Director of Community Relations. "The game of baseball is a great way to celebrate diversity, and we are proud to team up with the Greenville Drive for the HBCU Classic at Fluor Field."
