The rain fell at Suplizio Field Saturday night as Grand Junction came back from a four-run deficit to defeat Rocky Mountain 10-9 in extra inning. The Rockies committed eight errors on the night but were able to overcome that for the victory.
The Vibes got on the board first with two runs in the first. The Rox cut that in half after Colin Simpson singled, stole second, and came home on a double from Owen Taylor. However, Rocky Mountain pulled away with a run in the third, three in the fifth, and one in the sixth to lead 7-1 going to the home half of the frame. A throwing error allowed Brenton Doyle to reach first safely before stealing second. He tagged up on a fly ball to advance to third and another throwing error allowed Doyle to score making it 7-2.
Both teams plated a pair in the seventh with GJ getting its runs on the board with a single from Cristopher Navarro followed by a home run from Julio Carreras. Grand Junction took over scoring the rest of the game. Down 9-5 heading to the bottom of the ninth, the Rockies rallied to plate four to tie the game and force extras.
A double play and strikeout ended the Vibes extra-inning scoring attempts in the tenth. Grand Junction had Navarro on second who moved over on a bunt from Carreras. Koss was intentionally walked bringing up Doyle. An infield single was just deep enough to score Navarro and seal the win.
Rockies' reliever Eric Hepple was credited with the win pitching for an inning with a strikeout. Arman Sabouri was tagged with the loss pitching for a third of an inning allowing one run on one hit with a walk.
Grand Junction has Sunday off before returning to Suplizio Field on Monday to face the Ogden Raptors. First pitch is scheduled for 6:40 p.m.
