Victory Field has and always will be a gathering place for all. On July 12, 2024, the Indians celebrated that by using the game of baseball to unite Indianapolis with the LGBTQ+ community in order to encourage love, not hate.
On June 8, 2024, Indianapolis Indians staff members participated in the Indy Pride Parade downtown. Alongside the Indians-branded truck donning Pride flags and rainbow balloons, staff members walked through the streets of Indy handing out Indians Pride Koozies to parade viewers.
Prior to the game, Indians employees gave away branded Pride Koozies to the first 1,000 fans through the gates. To kick off the game, Bryan Ruby, singer-songwriter and founder of the non-profit organization Proud To Be In Baseball, sang the National Anthem. With the night being a doubleheader, Ruby also performed some of his original songs in the Center Field Plaza during the break between the two games.
During the game, the Indians displayed facts about the LGBTQ+ community in Indianapolis on the video boards. In addition, all of the music playing throughout the ballpark during the game was recorded by LGBTQ+ artists.
Indians-branded Pride baseball caps were made available for purchase in a special ticket bundle offer, or were available at the game at the Victory Field gift shops.
