Bostick Honored for Community Service

INDIANAPOLIS - Following an All-Star and Team MVP performance on the field, Indians utilityman Christopher Bostick will be recognized for his work beyond the ballpark. The 24-year-old has been selected to represent the Tribe as the club's 2017 Pirates Community Commitment Award winner.

Bostick led all Indians players by dedicating 34 volunteer service hours to the Indianapolis community. One honoree is chosen from every affiliate in the Pirates farm system each season.
Among his many contributions, Bostick visited with students at RightFit School 46, played ball with members of the Southport Challenger League, participated in jersey unveilings at Ronald McDonald House and Riley Children's Hospital, and served meals at Wheeler Mission Ministries.
Instituted in 2008, the Pirates Community Commitment Program (PCCP) helps each player in the Pirates organization understand the personal and professional growth opportunities linked to community service, as they are viewed as role models or potential leaders.
The Rochester, N.Y. native had an exceptional year at the plate, resulting in his first promotion and eventual debut in the big leagues. He was named an International League midseason All-Star and was selected by the coaching staff as the club's Most Valuable Player after leading the team in average (.294), hits (143), doubles (33) runs scored (75) and total bases (203). He ranked second in the IL in hits and was third in average, doubles and runs scored.
Winners will be honored in an on-field ceremony at PNC Park in Pittsburgh prior to the Pirates hosting the St. Louis Cardinals at 7:05 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 23.
