Cardinals Blow Late Lead, Drop Game 2 to Braves

JOHNSON CITY, TN - After dropping game one 7-5 against the Braves, the Cardinals took a 4-3 lead in game two into the top of the ninth. Danville got their first three hitters on to load the bases and scored four runs to take a 7-4 lead and win game

JOHNSON CITY, TN - After dropping game one 7-5 against the Braves, the Cardinals took a 4-3 lead in game two into the top of the ninth. Danville got their first three hitters on to load the bases and scored four runs to take a 7-4 lead and win game two.
Kyle Leahy started the game for the Cardinals, his fifth of the season. Leahy went five innings, giving up ten hits, two earned runs, and notched five strikeouts.
Danville started the scoring in the first with one run. Johnson City answered in the bottom of the second with one run. Leandro Cedeno was hit by a pitch to start the inning. With one out, Carlos Soto doubled (5) and Cedeno scored to tie the game at one.
The Braves went on to score one in the third and one in the fourth to take a 3-1 lead. The Cardinals answered with one in the bottom of the fourth. Kevin Woodall reached on an error to start the bottom of the fourth. Leandro Cedeno then singled and Woodall advanced to third. With one out, Carlos Soto hit a sac fly and Woodall scored from third to pull the Cardinals within one, 3-2. 
Johnson City scored two more in the bottom of the fifth to take a 4-3 lead. Nolan Gorman doubled (4) with one out. Gorman then reached third on a wild pitch. Then with two outs, Leandro Cedeno singled to score Nolan from third to tie the game at three. During Brandon Riley's at-bat, Cedeno stole second (1). Riley singled to score Cedeno from third to make the score 4-3.
Both teams were shut out until the ninth, when the Braves scored four runs to take the 7-4 lead and then win after the Cardinals were shut out in the bottom of the ninth. 
The Cardinals used four pitchers after Kyle Leahy. Jake Sylvester was first out of the bullpen. Sylvester got his first hold of the season, throwing 2.0 shut-out innings, surrendering only three hits and tallying three strikeouts. Michael Brettell was the second pitcher used. Brettell blew his first save of the season. He pitched one inning, giving up three hits, four earned runs and notching one strikeout. EnriquePerez was the third pitcher out of the bullpen for the Cards. He took his third loss of the season, he didn't record an out in his outing. Perez faced one batter and issued a walk. JuanAlvarez, the final pitcher for Johnson City pitched one inning of shut-out baseball and struck out two hitters.
Game three between the Cardinals and Braves is set for Sunday, July 29th at 5:00 p.m. ET.
