Cardinals Take Game 1 Against Yankees; Woodall Blasts Ninth Homerun

PULASKI, VA - After winning 2/3 games against the Danville Braves, the Cardinals continued their great start to the six-game road trip with a commanding 9-3 win over the Pulaski Yankees
Colin Schmid started the game for the Cardinals, his third of the season. Schmid had a very solid start for the Cardinals. He went six strong innings, his longest outing of the season, allowing three hits, three earned runs, and notched three strikeouts.
The Cardinals started the scoring in the first. Brandon Riley led off the game with a double, and Donivan Williams followed up with an RBI single to give the Cardinals a 1-0 lead.
Pulaski answered with two runs in the bottom of the first to take a 2-1 lead. Johnson City would storm back with four runs in the top of the third when Kevin Woodall blasted a two-run homerun, his ninth of the season. Then Leandro Cedeno obliterated a ball to right field for the second two-run homerun of the inning to give the Cardinals a 5-2 lead heading to the bottom of the third. 
Pulaski scored their final run in the top of the fourth, and the score was 5-3 after four innings. Johnson City would continue to score in the late innings.
The Cardinals started the seventh with a double from Donivan Williams. Kevin Woodall singled and Williams advanced to third. Leandro Cedeno singled and Williams scored to make the score 6-3 after seven innings.
Johnson City scored for the final time in the top of the ninth. With one out, Nolan Gorman walked. Leandro Cedeno singled to move Gorman to second. After a pop out, that allowed Cedeno and Gorman to advance to second and third, Michael Perri hit a two-RBI double to make the score 8-3. Perri stole second during Moises Castillo's at-bat. Castillo then singled and Perri scored to make the score 9-3 in favor of the Cardinals and that is where the scoring would end.
The Cardinals used three pitchers after Colin Schmid. Enrique Perez was first out of the bullpen. Perez notched his third hold of the season. He threw one perfect inning, striking out two. Evan Sisk , the second pitcher used, notched his third hold of the season as well. Sisk pitched 0.2 innings allowing only two hits and tallied one strikeout. Parker Kelly was the final pitcher used for Johnson City. Kelly threw a perfect 1.1 innings in relief, including two strikeouts.
Johnson City continues their six-game roadtrip with a 3-1 record. Game two against the Pulaski Yankees is set for 7:00 p.m. ET
