Jupiter, FL (July 1, 2017)- It may not be the 4th of July yet, but there were fireworks at Roger Dean Stadium Saturday night.
Dexter Kjerstad came off the bench to pinch-hit for Zach Sullivan in the 11th inning, and hit a walk-off two-run homerun to propel the Hammerheads past Lakeland 4-3.
Chris Hoo hit a two-out double to extend the inning, setting up Kjerstad for his heroics.
It looked like the Hammerheads were about to drop their fourth game in a row, when Flying Tigers pitcher Jason Foley delivered a 2-2 fastball to Kjertsad, who sent the pitch over the left field wall.
Lakeland took a 3-2 in the top of the 11th when Blaise Salter scored on Will Allen's ground out against Hammerhead reliever José Quijada.
Stone Garrett was 3-4 at the plate for Jupiter, doubling twice and stealing his seventh base on the year. Brian Schales also chipped in, hitting a solo homer in the first.
Game three of this four game set it tomorrow, with first pitch scheduled for 5 PM. RHP James Needy (1-1, 1.80) will get the start for the Hammerheads. He'll be opposed by RHP Kyle Dowdy (6-4, 2.55 ERA).
