Minor League champions

Minor League Baseball has been around since the 1870s and its teams have been celebrating championships for nearly 100 years across the U.S. and Canada, writing their names into the baseball history books each autumn. Take a look back at which clubs earned trophies over the years -- select a league below:

2021 (Triple-A East)

Durham claims Triple-A Final Stretch championship

The Durham Bulls went 9-1 over the final 10 games of the season to win the Triple-A Final Stretch championship.

Minor League Baseball announced on July 14 that 10 games would be added to the end of the 2021 schedule after the start of the season was delayed by nearly a month. The 10 games were dubbed the Triple-A Final Stretch and a cash award was presented to the Bulls for posting the best record over the 10-game span.

The Bulls were also regular season champions of the Triple-A East with a 77-43 record. The Buffalo Bisons went 8-1 and were the runner up in the Final Stretch competition.

2019 (Triple-A West)

Avelino, River Cats sweep way to PCL title

When the ball came off the bat, it appeared as though Abiatal Avelino had grounded into an inning-ending, rally-killing double play as Sacramento trailed Round Rock by a run in the eighth inning on Friday night. Moments later, it became clear the ball -- and the game -- were heading in a different direction.

The Giants' No. 27 prospect lined a single off the glove of pitcher Ralph Garza to produce the tying and go-ahead runs as the River Cats completed a three-game sweep of the Express with a 7-5 win, capturing their first Pacific Coast League Championship in 11 years.

International League champions

Omaha chases down history with International League crown

Longevity certainly has its perks. Just ask Triple-A Omaha and manager Mike Jirschele.

As the ball settled into center fielder Drew Waters' glove for the final out, the Storm Chasers not only clinched their first International League championship, they accomplished something no other Triple-A club has ever done before.

Omaha polished off a record-breaking year for the franchise by defeating the Columbus Clippers, 7-3, in the decisive Game 3 of the International League Finals on Thursday night at Werner Park. The Storm Chasers' eighth title made them the only Triple-A team in history to win three different league championships.

Pacific Coast League champions

All systems go as Space Cowboys claim first PCL crown

The Space Cowboys can now officially claim to be "over the moon."

For the first time in its four-year affiliate history, Triple-A Sugar Land are champions after sweeping its way to the Pacific Coast League crown with a 5-2 win over Reno on Wednesday night at Constellation Field. It's the first title for an Astros' Triple-A affiliate since Fresno won the PCL crown in 2015.

Eastern League champions

SeaWolves sweep to second straight Eastern League title

The Erie SeaWolves are the cream of the crop of the Eastern League once again.

The Tigers' Double-A affiliate secured its second straight crown after sweeping the best-of-3 Championship Series with a 3-2 victory over Somerset on Tuesday at TD Bank Ballpark. After notching their first title last season, the SeaWolves went back-to-back with another under third-year manager Gabe Alvarez.

Southern League champions

Barons score first Southern League crown since 2013

There was nothing supernatural about it, but the metropolis known as Magic City lived up to its billing on Tuesday night.

DJ Gladney ripped a liner into center field in the bottom of the 10th inning to lift Double-A Birmingham to its first Southern League championship since 2013 with a 2-1 win over Montgomery at Regions Field.

The victory capped off an impressive 4-1 postseason run for the Barons, who limped into the playoffs with eight losses in 13 games to close the regular season.

Arkansas walks it off to nab first Texas League crown since 2008

The Arkansas Travelers came one win away from their first Texas League title in more than a decade in 2023, falling just short when they lost their winner-take-all Game 3.

This year, they found themselves in another winner-take-all scenario, and history did not repeat itself. This time, the Travelers got their storybook ending.

Alberto Rodriguez drove Mariners No. 2 prospect Cole Young home with the game-winning run and the Travelers secured their first title since 2008 in dramatic fashion with a walk-off 5-4 win over Midland in the best-of-3 Championship Series at Dickey-Stephens Park. Mariners No. 10 prospect Logan Evans worked six innings of one-run ball before Midland battled back to tie things up in the eighth, and Travelers ace Danny Wirchansky worked a scoreless ninth in relief before Rodriguez’s dramatics.

Midwest League champions

Captains win first Midwest League crown since 2010

It had been 14 years since the Lake County Captains won the championship.

But after one of the most dominant seasons in Midwest League history, the Guardians' High-A affiliate ousted the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers with a 9-4 victory on Wednesday in a winner-take-all Game 3 at Classic Auto Group Park.

After leading the circuit in runs scored (632) and runs allowed (507) during the regular season, the Captains swept through the semifinals against Dayton (Reds) before taking on Wisconsin (Brewers). They were the first team to lead the Midwest League in both stats during the regular season since 2011 and the first since Fort Wayne 2009 to do so and then win the title.

Northwest League champions

'Spokane needed a title': Indians snap championship drought

For the first time since 2008, the Spokane Indians took home the Northwest League title after a back-and-forth Championship Series against the 2023 victors, the Vancouver Canadians.

After three one-run games, Game 4 followed the same script. Knotted at 1 after nine innings, Vancouver struck first in the top of the 10th with a go-ahead sacrifice fly. A chaotic fielder’s choice scored a run in the bottom of the inning to tie the game and set the stage for a thrilling walk-off -- a hit by pitch, of all things -- to give Spokane the 3-2 win at Washington Trust Field.

No matter the method, the championship marks the Indians’ ninth as a franchise, moving them into sole possession of the Northwest League lead. Second-year manager Robinson Cancel is happy to see Spokane, which has been the home to Minor League Baseball since 1890, return to its winning ways.

Hot Rods score fourth SAL championship in the past six years

Hoisting the South Atlantic League championship banner has become something of a tradition for the Rays' High-A affiliate.

The Bowling Green Hot Rods captured its fourth title over the past six seasons with a 4-1 victory over the Hudson Valley Renegades (Yankees) in a winner-take-all Game 3 in the Championship Series at Heritage Financial Park. With a 75-54 regular-season record, the Hot Rods had been one of the most consistent teams on the circuit.

“All the work that they put in throughout the whole season, showing up every day, giving me their best,” Hot Rods manager Rafael Valenzuela said. “It's just awesome watching them celebrate. This is not something that happens every year, so I'm glad they enjoyed it.”

Nuts takes home second straight Cal League title

Having missed out on its first opportunity to clinch a second consecutive championship, the Modesto Nuts made sure the California League crown remained at John Thurman Field on Wednesday night.

The Seattle affiliate put on a pitching clinic, edging Lake Elsinore, 2-1, in the winner-take-all Game 3 of the Championship Series. The title was the third for the organization since it affiliated with the Mariners in 2017 and its 11th overall, tied for second-most in league history with Stockton, one behind San Jose's 12.

Modesto proved resilient in Game 1 of the series, rallying from a ninth-inning deficit to claim a 10-8 victory over the Padres affiliate. Although the celebration had to wait following a 9-2 setback on Tuesday, the Nuts did not let falling behind early in Game 3 affect them.

FredNats have to play two to win first crown since move

FREDERICKSBURG, Va. -- The Nationals' Single-A affiliate has a new entry in its history book. Fredericksburg took home its first Carolina League title since relocating from Potomac in 2020.

After rain postponed Game 2 on Tuesday, the FredNats hosted Kannapolis in a seven-inning doubleheader for the championship on Wednesday. After the Cannon Ballers almost no-hit their hosts in the first game of the evening, Fredericksburg battled back for a 3-0 victory in the winner-takes-all finale at Virginia Credit Union Stadium.

“We couldn’t script it any better," FredNats manager Jake Lowery said. “It seems like we’ve just been winning. The last three out of four seasons we’ve had winning seasons, above .500 and I think it [means] a lot for the city.”

Palm Beach leans on 2024 draftees en route to FSL title

Not even Mother Nature could wash away the Palm Beach Cardinals this season.

The Cardinals' Single-A affiliate claimed the Florida State League championship with a 6-4 victory over the Lakeland Flying Tigers on Wednesday at Roger Dean Chevrolet Stadium. But six batters into the winner-take-all Game 3, the two clubs entered a lengthy rain delay.

"We've had some weather delays being down here in Florida, but never that long," said Palm Beach manager Gary Kendall, who was named the 2024 FSL Manager of the Year earlier in the day. "We gambled and hoped it was just going to be light stuff that we could play through. We knew the boundaries as far as getting it in. … We just said, 'Well, let's go for it.'"
