Bees' dynamic duo no-hits Chiefs

Burlington's dynamic pitching duo of Danny Duffy and Juan Abreu have teamed up for seven wins in 2008. On Thursday, they also entered the record books after no-hitting Peoria.

Duffy went the first six, striking out four and walking two, and Abreu hurled the final three, fanning five and walking one, as the visiting Bees blanked the Chiefs, 10-0.

Duffy (7-4) won his third straight decision and the fifth of his last six, while Abreu notched his seventh save of the season -- all on Duffy's behalf.

"This was a team no-hitter, that's for sure," said Duffy, a 19-year-old lefty. "You had two pitchers involved and the team scored 10 runs, so it was a solid win for the whole team."

It was Burlington's first no-hitter since Chris Coughlin recorded a perfect game on June 30, 2004 against Beloit. It was the second no-hitter in the Midwest League this season. Craig Italiano and Branden Dewing combined to no-hit Burlington in a seven-inning game April 9.

"This was the first time in a long time I had all my pitches working the way I wanted," Duffy said. "I didn't realize it was a no-hitter until the sixth. When we got through the eighth, people were telling me this could really happen."

"When I'm in the bullpen, I don't look at the score," added Abreu, who had never been involved in a no-hitter before. "But when he came out of the game, Duffy told me, 'We've got a no-hitter going. You can do it.'"

Duffy, who retired the last 12 batters he faced, said his last no-no was in Little League and "doesn't count."

Abreu, a 23-year-old righty, has saved all of Duffy's seven wins this year.

"He was 'nails' tonight," Duffy said. "His curve was unbelievable. It's great to have a pitcher like that coming in after you."

Abreu mowed down the first eight batters he faced before walking Josh Harrison with two down in the ninth, but he struck out Nate Samson to end it.

The Bees (29-17), who have won seven straight, banged out 15 hits to complement their strong pitching.

David Lough went 3-for-6 with a double, two RBIs and two runs scored, while Mike Moustakas and Jamar Walton plated two runs apiece.

Jose Pina (0-1) surrendered five runs -- four earned -- on seven hits, striking out one without a walk in 1 1/3 innings to take the loss for the Chiefs (23-24).
