Only a pre-determined pitch count kept Riley Pint out of the win column on Sunday. Then again, throwing 100 mph fastballs as a 19-year-old portends many victories to come for the Rockies' third-ranked prospect.
Pint struck out four over four scoreless innings and Asheville pulled away late in an 11-3 win over Hagerstown at Municipal Stadium. The right-hander scattered four singles and two walks in his first full-season start, getting lifted after throwing 42 of 69 pitches for strikes.

Box score
The day did not start out well for Pint, who allowed a leadoff single to Nationals No. 16 prospectBlake Perkins and plunked No. 4 prospect Carter Kieboom. But the Kansas native got No. 3 prospect Juan Soto to bounce into a double play and ended the opening inning by fanning No. 6 prospect Sheldon Neuse.
The 6-foot-4, 195-pounder put runners at second and third in the second, but a pop-up and another strikeout kept the Suns off the scoreboard. Pint allowed singles in the third and fourth innings and exited with a 5-0 lead, one frame shy of qualifying for the win. He reportedly reached triple digits with his heater more than once in his South Atlantic League debut.
Drafted fourth overall last year, Pint posted a 5.35 ERA and 36 strikeouts over 37 innings in his pro debut with Rookie-level Grand Junction while he was still several months shy of his 19th birthday. He was more than two years younger than the average player at that level.

Ty Culbreth (1-0) got the win after allowing two runs on four hits with three strikeouts in four innings. Justin Lawrence finished up for the Tourists, who got a pair of homers and a career-high four RBIs from Vince Fernandez. Rockies No. 17 prospect Tyler Nevin also went yard on a three-hit day, while Colton Welker and Robbie Perkins homered in the victory.
Jake Noll doubled, singled, drove in one run and scored another for Hagerstown.
