ZEBULON, N.C. - Former Carolina Mudcats outfielder Trent Grisham made his Major League Baseball debut yesterday for the Milwaukee Brewers where he went 0-for-3 with a sacrifice fly and RBI at the Oakland Coliseum versus the Oakland Athletics. Grisham played for the Mudcats during the 2017 season and is now the fifth player from that team to receive a major league promotion after playing for the Mudcats in Zebulon.

The Brewers brought up Grisham from Triple-A San Antonio where he was hitting a stellar .381/.471/.776 with a 1.247 OPS, 13 home runs and 30 RBI over 34 games with the Missions before receiving the call to the big leagues. The 22-year-old Grisham first began the 2019 season with Double-A Biloxi where he hit .254/.371/.504 with a .875 OPS, 13 homers and 41 RBI in 63 games with the Shuckers before advancing to Triple-A and eventually the majors.
Grisham started in center and hit ninth in his MLB debut yesterday with the Brewers. His first at bat in the second inning resulted in a fly out to center, but his second in the fourth saw his first Major League RBI as he drove in Eric Thames with a sacrifice fly. Grisham later flew out again in the sixth and hit into a force in the eighth while going 0-for-3 with a RBI and playing in both center field and right field in his MLB debut.
The Brewers originally selected Grisham in the first round and with the 15th overall pick of the 2015 MLB Draft out of Richland High School in North Richland Hills, TX. Since playing for the Mudcats during the 2017 season, the Forth Worth, TX native went on to play in Double-A Biloxi in 2018 before returning to Biloxi this season and then playing in Triple-A San Antonio before his MLB promotion. He first began his professional career with the Arizona League and Helena Brewers in 2015 and the Low-A Wisconsin Timber Rattlers in 2016. Grisham originally played his first three years as a professional under the surname Clark, before changing it to Grisham following his 2017 season with Carolina.

Grisham finished his 2017 season with the Mudcats slashing .223/.360/.348 with eight home runs, 21 doubles, six triples, 45 RBI and a Carolina League high 98 walks. Grisham also played in a team high 133 games while scoring a team best 78 runs and finishing tied with Luis Aviles Jr. for the team lead stolen bases with 38 over 43 attempts.
Following the debut, Grisham now becomes the fourth former Mudcat to receive a promotion to the majors this year, along with 2016 Mudcat Dylan Moore, 2018 Mudcat Keston Hiura and 2017 Mudcat Jordan Yamamoto. Moore made his major league debut with the Seattle Mariners in Japan versus the Oakland Athletics on March 28, 2019. Hiura made his debut with the Brewers on May 14, 2019 in Philadelphia versus the Phillies where he went 2-for-3 with a walk and two singles. Yamamoto debuted with the Miami Marlins on June 12, 2019 versus St. Louis and earned the win after pitching through seven scoreless innings with five strikeouts, two walks and just three hits allowed while leading the Marlins to a 9-0 victory.
Grisham also joins Hiura as two of the four former Mudcats players to debut with the Brewers since Carolina became Milwaukee's Class-A Advanced affiliate before the 2017 season. Pitchers Corbin Burnes and Freddy Peralta, who both played for the Mudcats during the 2017 season, made their Major League debuts with Milwaukee last season.
The Carolina Mudcats are the proud Carolina League, Class-A Advanced affiliate of the Milwaukee Brewers. First established in 1991, the two-time Southern League Champion Mudcats are entering their 29th consecutive season of baseball at Five County Stadium in Zebulon, N.C. The Mudcats are owned and operated by the Milwaukee Brewers.
