Sea Dogs turn to tobogganing

Portland's front office competes in national competition
February 5, 2007
Portland, Maine -- Four members of the Portland Sea Dogs' front office staff spent this past weekend competing in the 17th Annual U.S. National Toboggan championships in Camden, Maine. Although the Sea Dogs did not win the National Championship they did manage to become the fastest toboggan team in professional baseball.

The Sea Dogs entry in the U.S. National Toboggan Championship was comprised of team captain Tony Cameron (Assistant Director of Ticketing), Jim Heffley (Vice President), Chris Cameron (Assistant General Manager/ Public Relations), and Corey Thompson (Director of Group Sales). The team competed against 140 teams in the four-man division from all over the country. The Sea Dogs traveled the 400 foot chute in 9.97 seconds, good enough for last place.

The Sea Dogs team, which had never been on a toboggan before, took advantage of their office before the big race by practicing in the grandstand at Hadlock Field. Despite the lack of a championship, the Sea Dogs had a great time and more importantly did not injure themselves. You can count on the team returning in 2008 to improve on their last place finish.

Sea Dogs' team captain, Tony Cameron called the run, "the greatest 9.97 seconds of my life."

For now the Sea Dogs are proud of their bragging rights; fastest toboggan team in professional baseball. The 2006 Eastern League Champions, will open the 2007 season on April 5th at 6:00 PM at Hadlock Field. Tickets are now available and can be purchased by calling the Sea Dogs ticket Office at 207-879-9500.
