Loman's bat hotter than ever for Barons

White Sox farmhand delivers career-high 5-for-6, four-RBI effort
June 5, 2011
Birmingham's Seth Loman is on a roll.

Loman registered his first career five-hit game, fell a triple shy of the cycle and plated four runs Sunday in the Double-A Barons' 13-4 rout of the Jacksonville Suns.

The 25-year-old reached safely in each of his first four at-bats, including a third-inning two-run blast -- his sixth of the season -- and a sixth-inning RBI single. He lifted a flyout in the eighth, the lone time the Suns retired him, before collecting a fourth RBI with a single in the ninth. He fell one RBI short of his career high.

Loman, who was slotted at designated hitter, has 17 hits in 36 at-bats and 12 RBIs over his past eight games. His batting average has climbed from .259 to .301 over the same span.

The first baseman, an Angels' 47th-round pick in 2005, had four career four-hit games entering Sunday, most recently while playing for the Class A Advanced Winston-Salem Dash on Sept. 6, 2010. Loman went 4-for-5 in that game.

Loman does not have a triple this season. He recorded seven three-baggers over his first four Minor League seasons.

The Barons also got productive days at the plate from Tyler Kuhn (4-for-5), Brandon Short (3-for-6) and Greg Paiml (3-for-5) .

Birmingham starter Nevin Griffith (3-3) benefited from the support. He gave up four runs on five hits and five walks over 5 2/3 innings.
