Lehigh Valley's Cloyd runs record to 11-1 with victory over Sox

In the Pacific Coast League, Andrew Werner (1-0), making his second start for Tucson, dealt a complete-game shutout in a 2-0 win over Round Rock. He scattered five hits without any walks while striking out six. Jesus Merchan and Daniel Robertson homered for the Padres. Chad Bell (3-4) took the tough-luck loss for the Express, surrendering two runs on five hits and four walks while fanning eight over 7 1/3 frames.

Wilkin Castillo hit a three-run homer and doubled and Chris Nelson went 3-for-4 with a double to power Colorado Springs past Iowa, 7-4. Rob Scahill (9-10) earned his ninth win for the Sky Sox, allowing three runs on nine hits and a walk with six strikeouts over five innings. Greg Rohan drove in a pair of runs for the Cubs.

Ryan Verdugo (8-3) limited Reno to two runs on four hits and three walks while striking out six over six innings to give Omaha a 4-2 win. Tony Abreu went 2-for-4 with a three-run shot for the Storm Chasers. Cole Gillespie hit his 12th homer of the year for the Aces.

Jerry Sands plated three runs, Matt Angle went 4-for-5 and Ivan De Jesus tripled, doubled and scored three times as Albuquerque topped Las Vegas, 8-5. John Ely (11-7) allowed four runs on five hits and two walks with four punchouts over seven innings to notch the win for the Isotopes. Denny Perales went 2-for-4 with a homer and three RBIs for the 51s.

Cory Aldridge hit his fifth homer in four games and Ed Lucas went 4-for-4 with a triple and an RBI to lead Salt Lake over New Orleans, 8-5. Top Marlins prospect Jacob Turner surrendered four runs on five hits and two walks while fanning four over six innings without factoring into the decision for the Zephyrs.

Mike Hessman launched his 29th home run of the season, a two-run shot in the third, and Chris Wallace added another pair of RBIs as Oklahoma City beat Tacoma, 7-1. Jose Cisnero (2-0) allowed one run on five hits and two walks while recording seven strikeouts over seven innings to get the win for the RedHawks. No. 5 Mariners prospect Vinnie Catricala brought in the Rainiers' lone run.

Collin Cowgill went 2-for-4 with a double and two RBIs and Tyson Ross scattered three runs -- two earned -- on eight hits and three walks with two strikeouts over six innings without factoring into the decision as Sacramento edged Memphis, 4-3. Eugenio Velez led the Redbirds in the loss, going 3-for-4 with two RBIs.

Ryan Lollis doubled three times, including the game-winning RBI in the 11th, and Brock Bond went 3-for-4 with two RBIs to lead Fresno over Nashville, 4-3. Eric Hacker turned in seven shutout innings for the Grizzlies, but did not factor into the decision. Jordan Brown plated a pair for the Sounds.

In the International League, Liam Hendriks allowed one run and struck out seven batters over seven innings and first baseman Chris Parmelee and left fielder Evan Bigley both homered as the Rochester Red Wings beat the Toledo Mud Hens, 4-1. Toledo right fielder Andy Dirks finished 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI in the losing effort, and starter Thad Weber fell to 6-10 after allowing three runs on eight hits and a walk over six innings.

Charlotte center fielder Jared Mitchell went 3-for-5 with a double and second baseman Drew Garcia plated three runs as the Knights beat the Louisville Bats, 8-1. Left fielder Conor Jackson slugged his eighth homer, while designated hitter Dan Johnson connected on his 24th longball of the season. Matt Zaleski (4-5) surrendered a run on four hits over six innings in the win. Louisville leadoff hitter Denis Phipps homered and doubled in the defeat.

Tampa Bay's top pitching prospect Chris Archer spun six shutout innings in his longest start since returning from a left oblique injury as the Durham Bulls edged the visiting Gwinnett Braves, 1-0. No. 9 hitter Nevin Ashley scored the lone run of the game in the fifth on a double-play ball. Gwinnett's Jose Constanza was hit by a pitch on his left knee in the sixth inning, and he was carried off the field by his teammates. Braves starter Yohan Flande allowed an unearned run over six innings, but he fell to 5-8 on the year.

The Indianapolis Indians erupted for 21 hits in a lopsided 13-1 rout of the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Yankees. Center fielder Jose Tabata was 4-for-6 with a double, four RBIs and two runs scored, and Yamaico Navarro, Brandon Boggs and Anderson Hernandez added three hits apiece. Left fielder Christian Marrero hit his fifth Triple-A homer and finished with two RBIs. Baby Bombers' shortstop Eduardo Nunez went 2-for-4 with a solo homer in a losing cause.

Pete Orr was 3-for-4 with a pair of doubles and Sebastian Valle plated both of Lehigh Valley's runs with a two-out double in the sixth to lead the IronPigs to a 2-1 victory over the Pawtucket Red Sox. The offense proved just enough for breakout star Tyler Cloyd, who allowed one run over seven innings. He lowered his ERA to 1.93 and improved to 11-1 with the win. Big league veteran Andy LaRoche accounted for Pawtucket's lone offense with a solo homer in the second inning.

Yunesky Maya tossed 7 2/3 scoreless innings and Carlos Rivero broke a scoreless tie with a solo homer with two outs in the seventh as the Syracuse Chiefs edged past the Buffalo Bisons, 2-0. Buffalo starter Garrett Olson allowed just two hits and a walk while striking out seven batters over seven innings, but he slipped to 4-7.

Norfolk first baseman Joe Mahoney was 3-for-5 with a three-run homer and left fielder LJ Hoes collected three hits, two RBIs and a pair of runs scored in the Tides' 8-2 win over the Columbus Clippers. Jake Arrieta moved to 3-1 after working 5 2/3 two-run innings in the win. Indians prospect Tim Fedroff doubled twice for the visiting Clippers to raise his International League average to .377.
