Herrera homers twice in Sox loss

After his teammates beat up Randy Johnson, Jonathan Herrera got in on the act for the Colorado Springs Sky Sox.

Herrera homered twice and drove in four runs in his Triple-A debut Thursday, but the Sky Sox were outslugged by the Tucson Sidewinders, 12-10.

Herrera smacked a solo shot in the sixth inning and added a two-run blast in the eighth. The 23-year-old second baseman spent last season at Double-A Tulsa, where he hit .257 with 24 doubles, three homers and 40 RBIs in 131 games.

Colorado Springs wasted no time jumping all over Johnson, a five-time Cy Young Award winner who was making the first of two scheduled rehab starts. Seth Smith and Ian Stewart laced back-to-back RBI doubles in the first inning and Smith added a two-run single in the second.

Omar Quintanilla went 3-for-3 and scored twice and Edwin Bellorin chipped in two hits and an RBI for the Sky Sox.

Tucson did most of its damage in the opening inning, scoring seven times on eight hits. Don Kelly and Trot Nixon ripped RBI doubles before Jamie D'Antona and Wilkin Castillo delivered run-scoring singles. Johnson helped himself with a two-run single.

D'Antona and Kelly each collected three RBIs and Emilio Bonifacio went 2-for-4 with a run scored for the Sidewinders.

Johnson surrendered five runs on eight hits and two walks with one strikeout in four innings. Coming off back surgery, he will make another rehab start on Tuesday against Salt Lake.

Connor Robertson (1-0) struck out the side in the seventh for the win and Jailen Peguero notched the save, despite allowing a run on one hit in the ninth.

Reliever Alberto Arias (0-1) tossed two hitless innings but gave up one run on one walk with two strikeouts and took the loss.
