INDIANAPOLIS - The Indianapolis Indians, in conjunction with the International League, today announced that right-hander
Kingham, 26, was tabbed as Indy's Opening Day starter and delivered a dominant outing against Columbus while earning no decision. The Pirates' No. 8 prospect, according to Baseball America, froze Clippers batters in winter-like conditions, recording the second 10-strikeout game of his career over five shutout innings. Kingham then capped the Tribe's first homestand with six punchouts over six innings of one-run ball against Toledo in a 4-1 victory.
Kingham is in a three-way tie for most strikeouts (16) in the league. His .114 batting average against (4-for-35) is second lowest among IL starting pitchers, and he ranks fourth in ERA (0.82, 1 ER/11.0 IP) among IL pitchers with two-plus starts this season.
Indianapolis paced the IL a year ago in weekly honors, bringing home six as a team.
