Zac Gallen worked seven scoreless innings as the New Orleans Baby Cakes shut out the Oklahoma City Dodgers, 2-0 on Saturday night.
Gallen held the Dodgers to four hits with three walks and five strikeouts to win for the second time in as many starts at home. In his two outings at the Shrine, he has tossed 13 innings without allowing a run.
After Gallen (2-1) stranded the bases loaded in the third inning, the right-hander worked around a one-out double in the fourth by inducing a double play grounder to begin a run of eight consecutive outs, and he fanned the final two batters he faced to become the first 'Cakes starter to pitch past the sixth inning.
The Baby Cakes were held off the scoreboard until the fifth, when Magneuris Sierra reached on his second infield single and Cristhian Adames doubled. The Dodgers intentionally walked Jonathan Rodriguez to load the bases, but Eduardo Paredes (1-2) threw four straight pitches out of the zone to Rafeal Ortega to force in a run, and Chad Wallach followed with a sacrifice fly.
Drew Rucinski overcame a leadoff single in the eighth, and Sean Burnett recorded two outs in the ninth before Jake Peter singled to bring the tying run to the plate. Jumbo Diaz then needed just one pitch to get Donovan Solano to pop out and earn his second save.
The 'Cakes ended a three-game losing streak and a four-game skid against Oklahoma City.
The teams continue the series on Sunday at 1 p.m.
