Binick, Orioles top Mets

Kraig Binick scored three runs and Clifford Flagello pitched five effective innings as Bluefield beat visiting Kingsport, 8-3, on Sunday.

Binick finished 3-for-4 with two stolen bases to extend his on-base streak to an Appalachian League season-high 25 games. The 22-year-old center fielder was hit by a pitch in the third and scored to tie the game, 3-3. He doubled and scored in the sixth and singled and scored again in the eighth for the Orioles (13-13).

Brendan Monaghan went 3-for-4 with two RBIs and a run scored as Bluefield ended a three-game losing streak. Richard D'Oleo, Eric Perlozzo and Jason White collected two hits apiece, while Jacob Julius singled and walked to extend his on-base streak to 24 games.

Flagello (4-1) allowed a season-high three runs on six hits while striking out five without a walk as his ERA rose to 2.13. Henry Williamson earned his first save after limiting the Mets (12-11) to two hits in four scoreless innings.

Kingsport starter Marcos Tabata (0-1) was tagged for four runs on six hits with three strikeouts in three frames.

Michael Parker, Daniel Stegall and Nicholas Giarraputo hit RBI singles in the third for the Mets. --Zack Hample/MLB.com
