Modesto, CA- The Inland Empire 66ers of San Bernardino downed the Modesto Nuts 3-2 in a contest in which the Sixers bent but did not break; The 66ers (10-10) matched a season-worst issuing eight walks but held the Nuts to 0-for-8 with runners in scoring position and guaranteed themselves the series-victory.
Inland Empire got on the board in the second on Brandon Sandoval's RBI single against Nuts' starter Darren McCaughan (0-3). Modesto (6-14), losers of five-straight, took a lead in the bottom of the second when Donnie Walton drilled homer to right off Sixers' starter Erik Monoah for a 2-1 lead. It was Modesto's first homer at John Thurman Field this season. The 66ers battled back in the fifth again capitalizing on a Modesto error as Brandon Sandoval reached on a two-base throwing miscue and later scored on Luis Rengifo's RBI single, his fourth RBI in two games. In the sixth IE took a lead as Kevin Williams Jr. tripled, the first of his career, and then scored on Jonah Todd's RBI single. Greg Belton (1-1) earned the win out of the pen for Inland Empire while Tyler Steven notched his first save in his career.
