Prior to Gonzaga, he attended Kamiakin High School in Washington... pitched for Bourne in the Cape Cod League in 2021... appeared in 42 games over three seasons at Gonzaga from 2020-2022, going 5-7 with a 4.31 ERA and 178 strikeouts in 137 2/3 innings... struck out 178 batters and walked 73 in that span... worked primarily out of the bullpen his first two seasons, making 20 of his 22 appearances in relief in 2021 before transition to the starting rotation in 2022, when he went 4-4 in 15 starts... in 2021, he was a WCC All-Conference Honorable Mention... in high school, he posted a 0.56 ERA with 63 strikeouts in 55 innings and was named MCC Pitcher of the Year and First Team pitcher... he also played basketball in high school... parents are Natalie and Charles Vrieling; he has a brother, Trevyn, and sister Taryn... his mother Natalie played volleyball for LCSC
