Selected in the seventh round of the 2018 MLB Draft by the Cleveland Indians out of the University of South Carolina... full name CODY MCKINLEY MORRIS... was one of the top junior high school prospects in the country at Reservoir High School in Fulton, MD, posting an 8-1 mark with a 0.99 ERA and 88 SO on his way to 2014 Louisville Slugger first-team High School All-American honors by Collegiate Baseball and Perfect Game... Named 2014 Gatorade Maryland Baseball Player of the Year after leading Reservoir to the 2014 Maryland 3A state championship; pitching complete game two-hit shutout in title game vs. North Harford...During senior season was limited to 12.0 innings (26 SO) due to a season-ending reconstructive elbow surgery... Pitched two seasons at the Univ. of South Carolina after red-shirting in 2016, led the team with nine wins during soph. campaign of 2018 (3.46 ERA, 16GS, 83.1 IP)… Was T6th in the SEC in wins, allowing just two ER in his last 4 GS (26.1IP)… Posted a 3.66 ERA in 10 freshman starts in 2017 for the Gamecocks... Favorite teams growing up are/were the Orioles, Ravens, Washington Capitals and the Maryland Terrapins... Posted a 6.75 ERA in six relief appearances for Cleveland... appeared in 21 games in the Minors between Double-A Akron and Triple-A Columbus... made three starts for Akron, striking out five in 5 1/3 innings... with the Clippers, he appeared in 18 games, 17 out of the bullpen, and went 2-1 with a 3.74 ERA in 33 2/3 innings... the Guardians traded Morris to New York Yankees for CF Estevan Florial on Dec. 26, 2023

2022

Spent most of the season on the 60-day Injured List after suffering a right back strain early in Major League camp… Was on IL, 4/7-8/31, beginning a rehab assignment in Arizona on July 12 and was transferred to AAA Columbus on Aug. 3, prior to his activation and impressive stint with Cleveland in September…Turned in a 1.69 ERA (4ER/21.1IP) over nine games/six starts with the Clippers...Made his ML debut on Sept. 2 in start vs. Seattle (L, 2.0IP, 4H, 3R/2ER) and went on to make five turns in the rotation, posting a mark of 1-2 with a 2.18 ERA over the five starts (20.2IP, 19H, 5ER, 11BB, 20SO)…Collected his first ML win on Sept. 23 at Texas, a career-high 6.0IP/6SO on Sept. 18 vs. MIN (tied a professional career-high for IP)…Worked in relief his final two outings (3.0IP, 2H, 1R/ER, 3SO) and was on the ALDS roster vs. NYY, tossing 2.0 perfect innings in Game 4 in Cleveland...Morris' 2.18 ERA (5ER/20.2IP) was the lowest for any Clevelander through his first five career starts since Aaron Civale (1.82) in 2019…Batters hit .083 (2/24) with RISP and .154 (6/39) with runners on base.

2021

Posted a breakout season between AA Akron and AAA Columbus in just his second professional season, going a combined 2-2 with a 1.62 ERA in 15 games/14 starts (61.0IP, 41H, 11ER, 20BB, 93SO, .189 AVG)...Averaged 13.72 SO per 9.0 IP for the year and 6.0 hits/9 IP while posting a WHIP of 1.00...Season was delayed to start due to a right shoulder strain suffered in the offseason...Was originally slated to be a part of February's Depth Camp along side the Major League club, but he did not report to Goodyear until April and opened the year on the 7-day Minor League Injured List...Began a rehab with the ACL club on June 28 and was activated at Akron on July 6...Promoted to AAA Columbus on Aug. 3....Did not allow a run over his first 16.0 innings at Akron, covering his first three starts and part of his fourth of the year... Yielded just 3 runs in 20.0 innings in five Double-A starts before being elevated in early August to Columbus, fanning 8 in his Triple-A debut of Aug. 8 vs. Omaha (4.0 IP)...Allowed only 1 run over his first 13.0 innings for the Clippers...Posted a 1.69 ERA in 5 September outings for Columbus (4GS, 21.1IP, 15H, 4ER, 7BB, 34SO)... Season-high for innings was 5.0 (2x) and season-high for pitches was 74...On the year right-handed batters hit .173 (19-for-110) off him....Allowed only 3 homers in 61.0 innings.

2019

2019 Split the season between Low-A Lake County and High-A Lynchburg, going a combined 7-4 with a 4.35 ERA in 21 games/20 starts (89.0IP, 95H, 43ER, 27BB, 111SO)...Fanned 11.22 per 9.0 IP on the year...Posted a 2.70 ERA over his last 4 Captains assignments (6ER/20IP) before being sent to Lynchburg on 6/20...Spent time on the IL in July with a lower back strain.
