Began high school career at Titusville HS in Pennsylvania and graduated from A. Crawford Mosley HS in Panama City Beach, Florida...Lettered four years in baseball, two years in golf and two in swimming in high school. Holds six swimming school records at Titusville...Won back-to-back region championships in 2013-14 at Titusville before winning two region and district titles at Mosley in 2015-‘16 seasons...Earned 2015 & 2016 Florida first-team All-State honors...JJ’s older brother Adam, a left-handed pitcher, played baseball at the University of Virginia before transferring to the University of Pennsylvania where he finished his last two college seasons. Adam was drafted by the Houston Astros in the 27th round in 2017 and played two seasons, reaching Advanced-A before retiring. Made his Major League debut with Miami on July 23, 2022 and went 34-for-204 with 5 homers and 16 RBIs in 65 games... in the Minors, he hit .228 in 88 games with Triple-A Jacksonville

2021

Spent the entire 2021 season with Double-A Pensacola. Hit .212 with 12 home runs and 54 RBI...Hit .311 with 3 doubles, a home run and 11 RBI in 13 games in September...After the season, played for the Mesa Solar Sox in the Arizona Fall League. Named the Fall League’s Hitter of the Year after hitting .316 with five home runs, eight doubles and 24 RBI, while working 20 walks in 24 games...Named the Fall Stars Game Most Valuable Player after he recorded two hits and three RBI, including a two-run home run...Helped the Solar Sox to an Arizona Fall League Championship with an RBI in the championship game.

Selected with the fourth overall pick of the 2019 MLB Draft by the Miami Marlins after being named to six first-team All-America Teams...Assigned to Single-A Jupiter to begin his pro career, where he hit .257 (36x140) with three home runs, eight doubles, and 19 RBI in 38 games...Named SEC Player of the Year, SEC Tournament MVP, First-Team All-SEC, finalists for the Golden Spikes Award, All-College World Series Team...Vanderbilt single-season record holder and national leader in home runs in 2019 (27) becoming the first Commodore since Scotti Madison (1979) to lead the SEC in home runs…Finished second in the Commodore record books in single-season runs (82) and walks (61); third in RBI (72)…Closed his career with a 51-game on base streak and reached base in 97 of his final 98 games...Led nation in total bases (192), fourth in runs (82), fifth in hits (95) and sixth in walks (61)…Became the ninth player and first since 2003 to record five hits in an SEC Tournament game, doing so with a 5x5 performance on May 22 against Auburn.
