June 1, 2011: At Reading, the R-Phils see every run of a 9-2 lead evaporate in the 7th inning, then rally for three in the bottom half of the inning to beat Akron, 12-9. Tuffy Gosewisch goes 3-for-3 with a grand slam and six RBIs. Shane Victorino is 1-for-3 with a run and two RBIs on rehab assignment from Philadelphia.
June 1, 2016: At Portland, Roman Quinn leads off the game with a HR for the second straight night and goes 3-for-4 with a homer, 2 doubles, 4 RBIs and 3 runs scored in a 12-2 win.
June 1, 2017: At Reading, all 9 Phils starters have a hit and score in a 14-6 win over Portland. Scott Kingery goes 4-for-4 with his EL-leading 17th homer, 2 RBIs and 2 runs. Mitch Walding hits 2 homers and drives in 4. Angelo Mora is 3-for-4 with a HR, 2B, 4 RBIs and 2 runs. Miguel Nunez goes 4 scoreless innings in relief for the win (4 H, 3 K).
June 1, 2023: At New Hampshire, Reading explodes offensively for a 13-7 win over the Fisher Cats. Nick Podkul, Ethan Wilson and Matthew Kroon each collect three hits. Kroon scores a career-high five runs, the first time a Reading player has done that since Nick Williams in 2015. Kroon and Wilson each add two doubles, while Podkul and Wilson hit back-to-back home runs in the eighth.
June 1, 2024: At Hartford, the Fightin Phils beat the Yard Goats 6-1, behind the bat of Robert Moore. Moore matches season-highs in hits (2) and runs scored (2). He also sets a new season-high with two stolen bases. Moore hits two home runs in the game, in consecutive at-bats, with the second of which being a grand slam. It marks the first multi-homer game of Moore’s career, along with first grand slam of his career. It also marked the first grand slam hit by Reading in a game since Cam Cannon did it on April 25, 2023, at home against Altoona. Matt Osterberg also earned his first win of the season, allowing one run over six innings, while the bullpen combines to hold Hartford scoreless and allows just one hit to finish off the win.
June 2, 1994: At Binghamton, the Phillies score nine runs in the 5th in a 12-5 win.
June 2, 2004: At Reading, John Castellano’s pinch-hit single drives home pinch-runner Scott Youngbauer with two outs in the 9th as the R-Phils beat Norwich, 8-7.
June 2, 2009: At Reading, all nine R-Phils starters have at least one hit and score at least once as Reading rallies from an early 4-1 deficit to beat Akron, 12-5. Kevin Mahar (2-for-4, HR) leads the charge with 5 RBI, including a 2-run single in the decisive 8-run 7th.
June 2, 2010: At Detroit, former Reading Phillie Jason Donald, who had been in the Major Leagues less than a month, breaks up Armando Galarraga’s perfect game with a 2-out infield single in the 9th inning. Replays show that umpire Jim Joyce’s call was incorrect and that Donald should have been called out. Donald would later say, “"I didn't know if I beat the throw or not. But given the circumstances, I thought for sure I'd be called out."
June 2, 2013: At Reading, Tommy Mendonca’s five-hit performance leads the Fightin Phils to an 8-1 romp over Akron. Mendonca triples, drives in three and scores once while David Buchanan (7.0 IP, ER, 5 H, 3 BB, 3 K) turns in a strong effort to pick up his second win of the season.
June 2, 2016: At Portland, Reading completes a 3-game sweep of the Sea Dogs with a 15-9 win. Backup catcher Joel Fisher goes 2-for-3 with a grand slam, 6 RBIs, 2 walks and 2 runs in his first road game with Reading. Dylan Cozens (4-for-6, 2 2B, 4 R) and Jake Fox (4-for-4, 2 HR, 3 RBI, 4 R) both have 4 hits.
June 2, 2017: At Akron, Mitch Walding hits 2 homers for second straight day but the RubberDucks win, 4-3. Zach Coppola goes 2-for-3 with an RBI and a walk in his Double-A debut.
June 2, 2018: At Reading, the Fightin Phils rally for two in the bottom of the 9th to beat Richmond, 5-4. Austin Bossart ties the game with a solo home run in the bottom of the 8th, then delivers the game-winning single in the 9th. Richmond had retaken the lead in the top of the 9th before Jan Hernandez knotted things up in the bottom half with an RBI double.
June 3, 1994: At Reading, Albany collects 18 hits in a 17-7 win over the Phils, who fell to 15-35.
June 3, 2000: At Bowie, Jason Michaels and Rusty McNamara each knock in four in a 10-5 victory over the Baysox.
June 3, 2004: At Reading, the Phillies pick up their second straight walk-off victory as Danny Gonzalez draws a free pass with the bases loaded in the 9th to beat Norwich, 5-4.
June 3, 2006: At Trenton, Gary Burnham and Angel Chavez each deliver four hits in a 10-2 rout of the Thunder. Burnham rips four doubles, drives in three and scores three while Chavez hits two doubles and scores four times. Shoemakersville native Nick Evangelista picks up his first win as a Reading Phillie by tossing 1.2 hitless innings.
June 3, 2009: At Reading, 2006 1st round pick Kyle Drabek makes his Baseballtown debut a memorable one by throwing 7.0 shutout innings in Reading’s 6-1 win over Akron. Drabek allows three hits and as many walks while striking out four to pick up his first Double-A victory.
June 3, 2014: At Harrisburg, the Fightin Phils come within one out of a combined no-hitter in a 5-1 victory. Hoby Milner gets the win, going 5.0 hitless innings, but is lifted after an hour rain delay. Ryan O’Sullivan continues to hold the Senators hitless for the next 3.0 innings, but Quincy Latimore singles off Kyle Simon with two outs in the 9th to spoil the no-hitter.
June 3, 2016: At Reading, the Fightin Phils use solo home runs by Dylan Cozens and Christian Marrero in the 9th inning to rally by New Hampshire, 5-4. Marrero had entered the game after starting 3B Angelo Mora was ejected in the 4th inning. It was Marrero’s 3rd straight game with a HR.
June 3, 2017: At Akron, Nick Rickles hits 2 homers and drives in all 5 runs in a 5-1 Fightin Phils win. Brandon Leibrandt goes 6.2 innings for his 4th victory (7 H, 3 BB, ER, 4 K).
June 4, 1997: At Norwich, Reading scores seven runs in the 4th, but loses 9-8 to the Navigators. Adan Milan collects two singles in the big inning.
June 4, 2005: At Reading, despite all 11 R-Phils position players getting hits (17 hits total) the Altoona Curve hold on for a 10-8 victory. Jesus Merchan, Jim Deschaine and Tim Gradoville all collect pinch-hit singles for Reading.
June 4, 2007: At Reading, the R-Phils continue their season dominance of Harrisburg with a 7-2 win. The game ends when home plate umpire John Tumpane calls a third strike on Cristian Guerrero because he stepped out of the batter’s box between pitches to argue balls and strikes. Fabio Castro tosses three perfect innings, striking out four for his first save as an R-Phil.
June 4, 2010: At Portland, Brian Stavisky’s 3-run homer with two outs in the bottom of the 9th caps a 5-run rally and gives Reading a 10-7 win over the Sea Dogs in the completion of a suspended game from May 27. Though it ended up taking 12 days to win four games, the R-Phils completed their first series sweep of the season.
June 4, 2013: At Altoona, the Fightin Phils beat the Curve in the completion of a game suspended May 23 at Reading. The Phils get 4 runs in the bottom of the 8th to take a 6-2 lead, then hold on for dear life as Altoona rallies for 3 in the top of the 9th off Kyle Simon. The belated 6-5 victory completes the Fightin Phils’ 4-game sweep of their cross-state rivals.
June 4, 2016: At Reading, Rhys Hoskins hits his 3rd walk-off homer of the season in the 10th for a 6-5 win on the club’s first ever Star Wars Night. Hoskins finishes 2-for-5 with 2 solo HRs. The homer is Reading’s 4th walk-off HR in the team’s last 5 home games.
June 4, 2018: At Reading, the Fightin Phils (playing as the Whoopies), defeat Richmond, 6-5, on Austin Bossart’s bases loaded RBI single in the bottom of the 10th inning. It is Bossart’s second game-winning hit in three days.
June 4, 2023: At New Hampshire, Reading fell behind 4-0, but battled back to win 6-4. Carlos De La Cruz had three hits, including a game-tying home run and the eventual game-winning double in the ninth. De La Cruz also extended his on-base streak to 21 games in the win.
June 4, 2024: At Reading, the Fightin Phils fall to the Harrisburg Senators 7-6. Carson Taylor and Kendall Simmons each hit two-run homers, while Marcus Lee Sang has a little league home run (a triple and throwing error) in the loss. Noah Skirrow tossed six innings and Caleb Ricketts has two hits and a RBI.
June 5, 1926: At Lauer’s Park, Jersey City outlasts Reading, 6-3, in 19 innings in an International League game. Ervin Brame, who had pitched for Reading earlier in the season, earns the win for the Skeeters by going all 19 innings, while John Watt Beard hurls the entire game for the Keystones. Reading did not score in the final 14 innings of the game.
June 5, 1994: At Reading, Mariano Rivera makes his Double-A debut for Albany-Colonie but does not get the decision in the Yankees’ 7-4 win over the Phillies. In fact, Rivera (7.0 IP, 8 H, 4 R, 2 ER, 6 K) is on the hook for the loss until Tate Seefried’s grand slam in the 9th off Ricky Bottalico gives Albany the lead for the first time in the game.
June 5, 1997: At Norwich, a 3-run 10th inning gives the Phillies a 5-2 win over the Navigators. Matt Guiliano’s two-run single gave Reading the go-ahead runs.
June 6, 1926: At Lauer’s Park, attempting a steal of home with two outs in the second inning, Reading’s Johnny Jacobs crosses the plate before the ball is delivered by the Jersey City pitcher. The run, however, does not count because the batter, Francis Sigafoos, grounds out to shortstop. Reading wins the game, 7-5.
June 6, 1967: At Reading, the Phillies split a double-header with York as neither team can muster more than one run the entire day. Bill Tomaselli’s RBI single in the 3rd gives Reading a 1-0 win in game one, while Brant Alyea’s 3rd inning single is the White Roses’ lone tally in game two. Dallas Green spreads out seven hits and two walks in the game one shutout. The twin bill is the first played under the new dual 7-inning arrangement designed by the Eastern League to speed up play. Previously, the first games were seven innings while the nightcaps were nine.
June 6, 1996: At Hardware City, the Phils rout the Rock Cats, 13-1, as Bobby Estalella hits two HR and Wendell Magee, Jr. has four singles in a 17-hit attack.
June 6, 2000: At Reading, the Phillies’ 1st inning run proves to be enough as Jason Kershner and Doug Nickle combine to 4-hit Harrisburg, 1-0.
June 6, 2006: At Reading, Tim Moss hits a solo home run to break an 8th inning tie and lift the Phils past Binghamton, 4-3. Scott Mathieson goes 8.0 innings, giving up three runs and fanning eight to pick up his 6th win.
June 6, 2007: At Reading, Kyle Kendrick fires Reading’s first 9-inning complete game of the season as the R-Phils beat Harrisburg, 8-1. Kendrick surrenders six hits while striking out five. His next start would come in Philadelphia a week later.
June 6, 2011: At Reading, the Phillies tie the game with a run in the bottom of the 9th, then defeat Trenton in 12 innings when Derrick Mitchell singles home Cody Overbeck. Overbeck is the offensive star of the 8-7 win, going 3-for-6 with a pair of home runs, five RBIs and three runs scored.
June 6, 2023: At Reading, the Fightin Phils fall in a slugfest 10-8 to Binghamton. Both Johan Rojas and Matthew Kroon have four hits, marking the first time two R-Phils had four-or-more hits in a game since Dylan Cozens and Jake Fox each had four on June 2, 2016 at Portland.
June 6, 2024: At Reading, the Fightin Phils win 9-1 over the Harrisburg Senators in an all-around well-played game. Caleb Ricketts has the first multi-homer game of his career in the win. Carlos De La Cruz has two doubles and Robert Moore drives in two runs. On the mound, Lachlan Wells carries a perfect game into the sixth inning, which was broken up on the 17th-batter he faced, when CJ Stubbs (Garrett’s younger brother) launches a solo home run. Wells ultimately allows just the one hit and run over six-strong innings and picks up the win.
June 7, 1908: Owner Jake Weitzel of the Reading Tri-State League team purchases the lease on Lauer’s Park, just three days after the announcement that the rival Union League has folded. The Pretzels would play only four games at Lauer’s Park (July 13-16) before deciding the field’s dimensions were too small.
June 7, 1933: Reading Baseball Hall of Fame member (Class of 1992) and 1953 Reading Indian
Herb Score is born in Rosedale, New York. Score would go on to win the AL Rookie of the Year
for Cleveland in 1955 and dominated until he was hit in the eye with a line drive on May 7, 1957.

June 7, 1998: At Bowie, Adan Milan singles, doubles, and homers, driving in five as Reading tops the Baysox, 9-8 in 11 innings.
June 7, 1999: At Reading, Jimmy Rollins collects four hits, including a double and triple, and knocks in three in a 10-4 win over Erie.
June 7, 2000: At Reading, Pete Zamora, making his first start of the season in game two of
a double-header, retires all 21 Harrisburg batters to record the first perfect game in R-Phils
history. A batter after Eric Valent makes a fantastic sliding catch to preserve the perfecto,
Zamora srikes out Dan McKinley to end it. The 6-0 win earns the Phils a split on the day as the
Senators take the first game, 1-0, defeating Brandon Duckworth on an unearned run.
June 7, 2004: At Reading, Robinson Tejeda and Ryan Howard team up to dump Akron, 8-0.
Tejeda gives up just two hits and fans six, while Howard goes 3-for-5 with 2 HR, 3 R and 5 RBI.

June 7, 2015: At Binghamton, the Fightin Phils clobber the B-Mets, 14-5, as Rene Garcia and J.P. Crawford each have 4 hits. Garcia goes 4-for-5 with 2 doubles, 2 RBI and 2 runs while Crawford is 4-for-6 with his first Double-A home run, his first stolen base, 2 doubles, 3 RBI and a run. Roman Quinn also turns in a fine performance, going 2-for-5 with a triple, 2 stolen bases, 3 runs and a pair of RBI.
June 7, 2016: At Akron, a 7-run 3rd inning fuels the Fightin Phils’ 11-1 rout of the RubberDucks. Jorge Alfaro, Dylan Cozens and Rhys Hoskins hit 3 straight HRs in the decisive inning. Alfaro goes 2-for-4 with a homer and 4 RBIs while Jesmuel Valentin is 4-for-5 with a double, RBI, and 2 runs.
June 7, 2023: At Reading, the Fightin Phils and Binghamton Rumble Ponies are postponed due to poor air quality, resulting from wild fires in Canada. Reading joined the Phillies, Iron Pigs and Blue Claws all in postponing due to poor air quality.

Marcus Lee Sang, Carson Taylor and Robert Moore all each add two hits for the Fightin Phils as well. Moore matches a season-high with two doubles. Tommy McCollum finishes the game for his sixth save of the season.
June 8-10, 1926 – Reading loses six games in three days as Rochester takes both ends of three straight double-headers at Lauer’s Park.
June 8, 1953 – At Wilkes-Barre, Reading blows out the Barons, 10-0, as Bill Meyer throws a four-hit shutout in a replay of the controversial 2-2 tie on May 24. Meyer also goes 2-for-5 with a double, a run scored and two RBIs. Billy Harrell goes 4-for-6 and Bob Moscrey drives in four.
June 8, 1967: At Reading, the R-Phils take on the big Phils in the first ever exhibition game between the two teams. A record crowd of 8,201 jam Municipal Stadium to watch the Double-A Phils top their Major League counterparts, 8-4. Leesport native Doug Clemens delights the hometown crowd with a 1st inning home run to right and Dick Allen follows suit with a homer over the opposite fence two batters later. Philadelphia skipper Gene Mauch, who draws quite a few boos from the crowd, manages in plain clothes after forgetting his uniform in Philly.
June 8, 1995: At Reading, Mark Tranberg shuts out Trenton on four hits as the Phils win, 3-0.
June 8, 1998: At Reading, Adan Milan goes 3-for-5 with two doubles, a homer and 7 RBI in an
11-3 win over Binghamton, raising his two-day RBI total to 12.
June 8, 2001: At Altoona, LHP Adam Walker gives up a single to Altoona Curve leadoff hitter
Kevin Haverbusch, then throws nine innings without giving up a hit to record a complete game
7-0 victory.
June 8, 2013: At Reading, Carlos Zambrano, recently signed and trying to make a comeback with Philadelphia, picks up the win as the Fightin Phils beat Harrisburg, 2-1, in game 2 of a doubleheader. Zambrano goes 6.0 innings, allowing one earned run on three hits and three walks while striking out seven.
June 8, 2016: At Akron, Rhys Hoskins hits another game-winning HR, a solo shot in the 11th to give Reading a 3-2 win. Hoskins also doubles and scores twice. Reading’s bullpen (Tom Windle, Hoby Milner and Miguel Nunez) strikes out 9 and does not allow a hit or run in 4.0 innings.
June 8, 2017: At Reading, Kyle Martin’s 2-run HR with 1 out in the 9th lifts Reading to a 4-3 win over Bowie.
June 8, 2024: At Reading, Robinson Pina goes the distance with a seven-inning complete-game shutout in the first game of a doubleheader, as the Fightin Phils win 7-0 over Harrisburg. Pina faces just two above the minimum, with two singles allowed. It was the first seven-inning complete game sine Ranger Suarez did it on June 19, 2018, at Portland. It was also the first completer game by a Fightin Phils since Tyler Viza on Sept. 1, 2028, at Trenton. Additionally, it was the first seven-inning shutout by a Reading pitcher sine Pete Zamora’s perfect game on June 7, 2000, 24 years and one day later. Also, it was the first two-hitter thrown by a Reading pitcher since JC Ramirez on July 7, 2011, at Bowie.
June 8, 2024: At Reading, the Fightin Phils beat Harrisburg 7-0 in game one of a doubleheader. Outside of Robinson Pina’s complete-game shutout, the offense comes to life too. Leadoff man Marcus Lee Sang goes four-for-four with two runs, a double and two RBI. Behind him, Carlos De La Cruz goes three-for-four, with a run scored, double, home run and three RBI. The 1-2 duo combines to go seven-for-eight, with three runs, two doubles, one home run and five RBI. It was Lee Sang’s third-career four hit games, and first since May 24, 2023, with Jersey Shore at Aberdeen. His four hits were the most by a Fightin Phils since Matt Kroon had four on August 4, 2023, at Hartford. In game two of the doubleheader, Reading falls 5-3, but Casey Martin homered and Arturo De Freitas hits his first Double-A home run in the bottom of the seventh.

June 9, 2004: At Reading, on what looks to be a game-ending 1-2-3 double play, catcher Russ Jacobson’s throw to first to complete the twin-killing sails into the right field corner, allowing three runs to score as Akron surges ahead, 6-5, in the 9th inning. Aeros hitter Scott Pratt rounds the sacks on the play, which is ruled a three-base error on Jacobson. The Phillies rally to tie the game in the bottom of the 9th, but lose in the 10th on Nate Grindell’s RBI single.
June 9, 2006: At Reading, the Phils use a 6-run 1st and a 2-run 2nd to build an 8-1 lead, then hold on to beat Trenton, 9-7. Michael Bourn reaches base all five trips to the plate, going 3-for-3 with a pair of walks, two stolen bases and two runs scored. Jason Jaramillo’s 3-run homer caps the opening frame and is his first HR as an R-Phil.
June 9, 2012: At Reading, Tim Kennelly bats in the leadoff spot for the first time as an R-Phil and goes 3-for-4 with a stolen base and two runs scored to lead Reading to a 7-2 win over Harrisburg. The stolen base would be Kennelly’s only swipe of the season. Also, Jiwan James laces an inside-the-park home run to center in the 8th inning.
June 9, 2016: At Akron, Reading completes a 3-game sweep in a battle of first place teams, improving to 42-19 on the season with a 6-2 win. Aaron Brown hits a 3-run HR and Cuban defector Osmel Aguila collects his first Double-A hit (1-for-3, 2B, 2 R). Despite being swept, Akron scored first in all 3 games.
June 9, 2017: At Reading, Brandon Leibrandt (7.0 IP, 4 H, 2 BB, 4 K) combines with two relievers for a 1-0 shutout of Bowie. Jiandido Tromp’s double scores Malquin Canelo with the game’s only run in the 3rd inning.
June 9, 2023: At Reading, Carlos De La Cruz drives in both runs for Reading in a 2-1 win, including the walk-off hit in the tenth. The pitching was excellent as Mick Abel threw five innings and allowed one run, while the bullpen pitched five-scoreless innings.
June 9, 2024: At Reading, the Fightin Phils earn their second shutout in three games with a 4-0 blanking of the Harrisburg Senators. Noah Skirrow earns the win with five-scoreless innings and four relivers combine to hold Harrisburg off the board. Kendall Simmons homered and Carson Taylor homered for his league-leading 42nd RBI of the season. Marcus Lee Sang drove in two runs with a single in the seventh inning.
June 10, 1996: At Reading, Dan Held hits two home runs and drives in four to lead the Phillies to a 7-6, 10-inning win over Trenton.
June 10, 1997: At Portland, Aaron Royster connects for two home runs for the second straight game against the Sea Dogs as Reading wins, 5-4. Royster’s two day totals include four home runs and 10 RBI.
June 10, 1998: At Reading, Binghamton’s Nelson Figueroa strikes out 12 in a two-hit shutout of the Phillies.
June 10, 2000: At Altoona, the Phillies turn four double plays and record their 12th victory in a 13-game stretch. Doug Nickle hurls the final four innings, giving up no runs and picking up the save in the 6-2 decision.
June 10, 2011: At Reading, Cody Overbeck, on pace to break Ryan Howard’s single-season home run record, hits his league-leading 18th HR of the season and B.J. Rosenberg tosses 7 shutout innings to lead the Phillies to a 4-0 win over Altoona. The homer would be Overbeck’s last before being promoted to Triple-A.
June 10, 2012: At Reading, Tim Kennelly continues to deliver out of the leadoff spot, reaching base in all five of his plate appearances (4 H, BB) in a 5-4 R-Phils victory over Harrisburg. Kennelly leads off the 1st inning with a home run, then wins the game with his second solo homer in the bottom of the 9th.
June 10, 2013: At Reading, the Fightin Phils beat Harrisburg, 6-0, in a rain-shortened 6-inning Morning Game. Austin Wright notches his first win of the year and strikes out 7 over 5.1 innings.
June 10, 2016: At Reading, the Phils get homers from Dylan Cozens, Jorge Alfaro and Rhys Hoskins in the same game for the second time in 4 days (Cozens and Hoskins went back-to-back in the 3rd) in a 9-2 win over Altoona. Tyler Viza wins his Double-A debut (6.0 IP, 5 H, ER, 3 K).
June 10, 2017: At Reading, Drew Anderson goes 7 shutout innings, allowing just 2 hits and a walk while fanning 3 to notch his 5th win as Reading beats Hartford, 4-1. Andrew Pullin goes 2-for-4 with 2 RBIs and his first triple of the season. Former Fightin Phil Anthony Phillips drives in the only Yard Goats run with an 8th inning double.
June 10, 2023: At Reading, the Fightin Phils fall in both games of a doubleheader against Binghamton. Reading led in both games but lose in extra innings (eight) in both. Griff McGarry threw five no-hit innings in game one and the R-Phils had a combined no-hit bid snapped in the seventh. In game two, Reading led 5-1, but ultimately fell 8-5.
June 11, 1953 – At Reading, Joe Caffie and Rocky Colavito lead the way as the Indians down Wilkes-Barre, 9-7. Caffie goes 3-for-5 with a home run, two runs scored and four RBIs. Colavito goes 3-for-4 with a double, triple, run scored and three RBIs.
June 11, 1954: At Reading, Roberto Vargas loses a perfect game in the 8th and a no-hitter in the 9th, settling for a one-hit, 1-0 shutout of Schenectady. Vargas’ masterpiece was nearly matched by the Blue Jays’ Paul Penson, who gave up just two hits and one unearned run. Paul “Cooter” Jones scores the game’s lone tally in the 1st inning when he reaches on an error and later scores on a double.
June 11, 1993: At Canton-Akron, Reading sweeps a double-header from the Indians. David Tokheim singles twice in the 6-run 3rd of game 2 (8-3 final).
June 11, 1998: At Reading, Aaron Royster caps a 4-for-5, five RBI performance with a game-winning single in the bottom of the 10th as the Phils beat Binghamton, 8-7.
June 11, 2003: At Bowie, Garry Maddox II has the game of his career, smashing two home runs off Fernando Rijo in the first inning and three more against John Parrish in the 7th inning for a total of five round-trippers. Despite the long ball barrage, Maddox knocks in just four of the Phillies’ runs in an 8-5 victory. It is Josh Wentzel’s finest hour.
June 11, 2004: At Reading, Carlos Ruiz singles home Kevin Barker with two outs in the 9th to complete a 7-6 comeback win against Altoona. The Phils scored three in the 8th to tie the game
June 11, 2009: At Reading, Jeremy Slayden, just sent down from Triple-A Lehigh Valley, hits a pinch-hit grand slam with one out in the bottom of the 9th inning to give the R-Phils a dramatic 6-3 win over Trenton.
June 11, 2015: At Reading, the Fightin Phils outlast Altoona, 8-7, in 18 innings. Brock Stassi, who starts at 1st base and goes 4-for-8 with 2 RBI, ends up hurling the final 3 innings and secures the win. He allows no hits and just one walk while striking out 3. The Fightin Phils had rallied from a 7-4 deficit in the 9th, tying the game on a 3-run homer by Art Charles, his first career pinch hit HR. The winning run scores on walk to Cameron Perkins by infielder Edward Salcedo, who throws 15 balls and just 3 strikes (two of which are bunts) while issuing 3 walks in his 1/3 of an inning. Altoona is held scoreless over the final 11 innings and Reading pitchers tally 21 strikeouts by the time it’s over, with Zach Eflin (5.0 IP) and Adam Loewen (3.0 IP) each having 6. It takes 5 hours and 7 minutes to complete the game.
June 11, 2016: At Reading, Dylan Cozens goes 3-for-4 with 2 homers, 6 RBIs and 3 runs in a 12-8 win over Altoona. Rhys Hoskins homers and has 3 hits, Jorge Alfaro has 3 hits and scores 3 runs and Angelo Mora contributes a home run, 2 singles, 2 runs and 2 RBIs.
June 11, 2017: At Reading, the Fightin Phils complete a 3-game sweep of Hartford with a 7-2 win. Mitch Walding hits 2 homers for the 3rd time in 11 days and drives in 4. Scott Kingery goes 3-for-5 with 2 RBIs and his EL-leading 18th HR, his final homer for Reading.
June 11, 2024: At Reading, the Fightin Phils fall to the Portland Sea Dogs 9-5. Carlos De La Cruz has his second two-homer game of the season and Cade Fergus hits his first Double-A homer. Robert Moore adds two hits and a double in the loss, as well. Otto Kemp makes his Double-A debut, after being called up, along with Andrick Nava, from High-A Jersey Shore earlier in the day. Michael Rucker and Luis Ortiz both make big-league rehab appearances, as well.
June 12, 1954: At Reading, Paul “Cooter” Jones lays down a suicide squeeze with the bases loaded in the bottom of the 8th inning to give the Indians a 6-5 victory over Schenectady in game one of a double-header. Schenectady had sent the game into extra innings with two in the top of the 7th and had taken the lead with another in the 8th before Reading rallied for the win. Reading took the second contest, 6-2, to complete the sweep.
June 12, 1955: At Reading, Frank “Home Run” Baker, who had recently been inducted into the National Baseball Hall of Fame, is honored and presented with a plaque before the Indians’ game with Williamsport. Baker said of his return, “When I came into Reading, I felt like I was coming back home.” The Grays win the first game of the scheduled double-header, 3-2, while the second game is rained out.
June 12, 1996: At Reading, Dan Held belts a grand slam and drives in five to lead the R-Phils to a 10-4 win over Trenton. Scott Rolen goes 3-for-3 with a home run and three RBI in his final game with Reading.
June 12, 2000: At Harrisburg, Reading clouts four home runs, including a Jason Knupfer grand slam, to win 11-6.
June 12, 2005: At Harrisburg, the Senators beat Reading for the third straight game in their final at-bat. Edgar Gonzalez’s 9th inning pinch-hit two-run triple was the final blow in the 7-6 Harrisburg win. The Phils squandered multi-run leads in all three games.
June 12, 2006: At Philadelphia’s Citizen Bank Park, Brandon Gemoll’s double drives home Angel Chavez with the game-winning run in the bottom of the 10th as Reading beats Altoona, 5-4. Joey Hammond goes 4-for-5 with a home run and three RBI for Reading.
June 12, 2007: At Binghamton, Greg Jacobs’ single plates Randy Ruiz with the go-ahead run in the top of the 13th and the Phillies defeat the B-Mets, 5-3. Jacobs is 3-for-6 with three RBI in the game.
June 12, 2010: At Reading, Tagg Bozied’s 2-out single to deep short scores Michael Spidale with the game-winner as the R-Phils beat Richmond, 5-4.
June 12, 2015: At Reading, Akron beats the Fightin Phils, 12-11, in a crazy 12 inning affair that lasts 4:24. Reading looks like it has the game won until the RubberDucks erupt for 5 runs in the top of the 9th to tie the game at 10-10. On the heels of their 18-inning marathon the night before, Reading is forced to go with Rene Garcia in the 12th as the backup catcher ends up being tagged with the loss (1.0 IP, 3 H, 2 ER, K). Reading draws 12 walks in the game, led by Art Charles with 4. The Phils’ 6 & 7 hitters, Brian Pointer and Brodie Greene, go a combined 9-for-12 (all singles) with 2 RBI and 7 runs scored. Akron’s Josh Smith is a singles machine as well, hitting 5 of them and scoring 4 runs. Roman Quinn goes 2-for-2 with his 29th stolen base but tears a quad beating out an infield single in the 2nd inning and is lost for the season.
June 12, 2016: At Reading, Jesmuel Valentin’s 2-run single in the bottom of 9th beats Altoona, 2-1 as the Fightin Phils win their 7th straight and complete their second series sweep in a row.
June 13, 1936: Baseballtown native Carl Mathias is born in Bechtelsville. Carl played parts of
the 1957 and 1958 seasons for the Reading Indians. He pitched for Cleveland in 1960 and for
Washington in 1961.
June 13, 1955: At Wilkes-Barre, Don Minnick improves to 8-0 with a complete game 6-5 victory over the Barons in the second game of a double-header split. Minnick surrenders four runs in the first inning, but hangs in until Joe Camacho eventually ties the game with a solo homer in the 9th and scores the game-winner in the 11th. Wilkes-Barre had rallied from a 4-0 deficit to win game one, 9-8.
June 13, 1992: At Reading, Pete Alborano goes 4-for-4 with a triple and a home run to lead the Phils past New Britain, 3-1. Darrell Goedhardt pitched 6 innings for the win and Chris Limbach picked up the save by throwing 3 hitless innings.
June 13, 1995: At Bowie, Chad McConnell goes 4-for-5 with 3 home runs and 5 RBI in a 7-6 win over the Baysox.
June 13, 2001: At Reading, Adam Walker throws the first nine inning no-hitter in R-Phils history and extends his streak of consecutive no-hit innings to 18 as the Phils blank New Haven, 4-0. Walker also did not walk a batter as the Ravens only baserunners came via a hit batsman and two errors.
June 13, 2006: At Erie, the R-Phils explode for 20 hits in a 17-3 pasting of the SeaWolves. Every Reading batter has at least one hit with Jesus Merchan going 4-for-5 with a double, home run, four RBI and two runs scored. Gio Gonzalez gets the win, pitching 7.0 innings and giving up four hits and two runs while striking out 12.
June 13, 2007: At Binghamton, Mike Costanzo’s two home runs and three RBI spark the R-Phils to a 6-1 win over the Mets. Landon Jacobsen gives up five hits and one run over 7.0 innings for the victory.
June 13, 2015: At Reading, the Fightin Phils play their 3rd straight extra-inning game, a 3-2 loss to Akron in 15, concluding a string of 45 innings in just 3 days. Devin Lohman gets the loss in the 4:40 marathon and becomes the 3rd Phils position player in a row to get a decision. Akron infielder Justin Toole picks up the win (3.0 IP, 2 H). Erik Gonzalez knocks in all 3 Ducks runs, including the game-winner on a double in the 15th. Colton Murray strikes out 6 in 2.0 shutout innings of relief and Reading pitchers fan 19 in the game. It was Aaron Nola’s last start in Reading (5.0 IP, 5 H, 2 ER, 5 K).
June 13, 2017: At Bowie, the Fightin Phils win their 6th straight as Mario Sanchez goes 6.2 shutout innings, giving up only 6 hits while striking out 3 for the win. Andrew Pullin has 4 hits, including his 13th home run, and scores twice in the 4-2 victory.
June 13, 2021: At Reading, the Fightin Phils unload for 8 extra base hits in an 8-1 victory against the Hartford Yard Goats. 4 doubles, 2 triples and 2 homeruns for Reading, while the R-Phils pitching staff only allowed 3 hits was the winning formula, as the Yard Goats only run came on a solo shot from Taylor Snyder. Dalton Guthrie’s 2 for 4 game with 4 RBIs lead the way, while in his Double-A debut, pitcher Jack Perkins launched an RBI triple in his first at bat.
June 13, 2023: At Reading, the Fightin Phils beat Hartford 14-2, thanks in large part to a ten-run fourth inning. In that frame, 14 R-Phils came to the plate and they had nine hits. It was the first time Reading scored ten runs in an inning since Apr. 17, 2012 at Richmond. Ethan Wilson had two home runs in the win, while Reading had five total. Carlos De La Cruz had two hits to extend his on-base streak to 28 games. On the mound, neither run allowed was earned and Victor Vargas turned in his best of his season with six-strong innings.
June 13, 2024: At Reading, Philadelphia Phillies outfielder Brandon Marsh makes his first rehab appearance with Reading in front of 8,487 fans on a Thursday night. Marsh goes three-for-five, with a run scored, in Reading’s 8-6 win over Portland. Marcus Lee Sang hits a pinch-hit home run, while Robert Moore also goes deep. Otto Kemp, playing in his third Double-A game, launches a three-run home run, his first at the Double-A level.
June 14, 1911: At Lauer’s Park in Reading, pitcher George “Jake” Northrop throws the first
perfect game in Reading baseball history as the Pretzels defeat Lancaster, 8-0, in a Tri-State
League contest. Northrop strikes out the final five Red Roses to end the game.
June 14, 1917: At Binghamton, future Hall of Famer Bucky Harris makes his debut for the
Reading Pretzels of the New York State League, filling in for second baseman Dick Breen.
Breen, who had been suspended for attacking Wilkes-Barre’s manager, would be released
two days later and subsequently banned for life from the league.
June 14, 1953 – At Reading, Jim Barnhardt tosses a 2-hit shutout to beat Scranton, 1-0.
June 14, 1955: At Wilkes-Barre, Mexico native “Pistol” Pete Mesa strikes out 10 and whitewashes the Barons, 5-0, on a five-hitter. Right fielder Frank Tanana hits a three-run homer and triples to lead the Indians’ attack.
June 14, 1996: At Canton-Akron, Ryan Nye strikes out 10 over 8 innings and Wayne Gomes notches the save in Reading’s 3-1 win.
June 14, 1998: At Reading, Steve Carver leads off the bottom of the 19th with his second home run of the game to give the Phils a 6-5 win over Trenton in a 5 hour, 35 minute marathon (not counting a 32-minute rain delay). Hut Smith pitches six scoreless innings for the win. Trenton out hits the Phillies, 21-11, but strands 25 runners and leaves the bases loaded four times. An estimated 200 people remained at 7:15 PM when the game ended.
June 14, 2006: At Erie, Jason Jaramillo’s sacrifice fly drives in Brandon Gemoll with the winning run in the 10th inning as the Phillies beat the SeaWolves, 4-3. Gemoll, who had replaced an injured John Castellano in the 7th, led off the inning with a double in his only at bat.
June 14, 2009: At Reading, Brad Harman’s long single to the wall drives in Brian Stavisky with the game-winning run with one out in the bottom of the 9th as the Phillies battle back to beat Harrisburg, 6-5. Jeremy Slayden, in his first start since coming down from Triple-A, goes 4-for-4 with a double and three RBI.
June 14, 2013: At Richmond, Derrick Mitchell’s 2-out RBI double ties the game in the 9th and Edgar Duran’s RBI double in the 10th provides the winning run as Reading rallies to beat the Flying Squirrels, 2-1. Mike Nesseth hurls the 9th and 10th innings to notch his first win as a Fightin Phil.
June 14, 2015: Reading ace Aaron Nola (7-3, 1.88 ERA, 59 K) is promoted to Triple-A. He was 3rd in the league in ERA, tied for 1st in wins and 5th in strikeouts.
June 14, 2016: At Reading, the Phils beat Hartford, 8-6, rallying from an early 4-0 deficit. Rhys Hoskins becomes the 3rd Fightin Phils player in June to tally 6 RBIs in a game, going 3-for-4 with a home run, 2 doubles and 6 runs batted in. Reading plays as the visiting team in a game that was moved to FirstEnergy Stadium due to the Yard Goats’ ballpark not being ready.
June 14, 2017: At Bowie, Reading wins its 7th straight game, erasing a 4-2 deficit with 3 runs in the 6th en route to a 5-4 triumph. Zach Coppola goes 2-for-4, scores 2 runs and swipes 3 bases. One of his stolen bases is of home as part of a double steal with Scott Kingery in the 1st.
June 14, 2023: At Reading, Tyler Phillips goes six no-hit innings and the R-Phils come just four-outs shy of the 14th no-hitter in franchise history. But seven-unanswered runs for Hartford give them a 7-2 win in ten innings.
June 14, 2024: At Reading, 7,957 fans pack FirstEnergy Stadium to catch Brandon Marsh’s second, and final, rehab appearance with Reading. Marsh goes one-for-three, with a run scored and walk. Reading beats the Portland Sea Dogs 13-5 behind an eight-run third inning where 13 Fightin Phils come to the plate. Reading walks 10 times and has 10 hits in the win. Robinson Pina earns his team-best seventh win.
June 15, 1987: At Reading, in the longest game in Municipal Stadium history, Shane Turner hits a game-winning homer off the right field foul pole to give the R-Phils a 7-5 win in 18 innings.
June 15, 1995: At Reading, the Phillies hit five home runs in a 12-5 victory over Bowie.
June 15, 2000: At Reading, Johnny Estrada goes 5-for-5 to lead a 17-hit attack in a 10-3 victory over Akron. Eight of the hits went for extra bases.
June 15, 2001: At Bowie, Carlos Silva throws a two-hit shutout as he blanks the Bowie Baysox,
4-0. It was one of Silva’s four complete games of the 2001 season.
June 15, 2016: At Reading, the Fightin Phils win their 9th straight, battling back from 3-0 hole to down Hartford, 5-4, in 10 innings. The Yard Goats, playing as the home team, rally for run in bottom of 9th with 3 straight 2-out singles but Jesmuel Valentin’s solo shot in the 10th provides the winning run for Reading.
June 15, 2017: At Bowie, Reading wins its 8th straight, 8-7, in 13 innings. The Fightin Phils rally for 5 in the 9th to take a 7-6 lead but Bowie ties it with a single tally in its last at-bat. Reading wins it as Nick Rickles’ sac fly scores Mitch Walding in the 13th. Austin Davis gets the win, giving up 2 hits and striking out 6 over 3 shutout innings. Scott Kingery has another outstanding effort at the plate, going 3-for-7 with 2 doubles, 2 RBIs, a run and a stolen base.
June 15, 2021: At Harrisburg, the former 2015 Eastern League MVP Brock Stassi rejoined the Fightins on the road after signing as a free agent. He did not get the start in his first game back, but was needed off the bench when the game went to extras. The Sacramento native made the most of this at bat, slapping a go-ahead RBI single through the gap to give Reading the lead, in which they would win 9-8 final.
June 15, 2024: At Reading, the Fightin Phils win their third-straight game over Portland, 5-2. Carlos De La Cruz hit a go-ahead home run in the fifth inning to keep his hot-June going. Otto Kemp his a two-run home run, his second in his first week at Double-A in the win.
June 16, 1917: Reading Pretzels second baseman Dick Breen, suspended for attacking
Wilkes-Barre’s manager, is released and later banned for life from the New York State League.
June 16, 1955: At Williamsport, Gene Law fires Reading’s fourth consecutive complete game, a 5-1 victory.

June 16, 2004: At Erie, Reading starts a 10-game winning streak with a dramatic 3-2, 10-inning win over the SeaWolves. Scott Youngbauer hits his third last at-bat game-winning HR of the season
June 16, 2005: At Reading, Allen Davis becomes the first Reading pitcher in nearly three years to fire a 9-inning complete game as he shuts down New Britain, 8-1, on a four-hitter. Four R-Phils homer in the game: Chris Roberson, Ryan Barthelemy, Juan Richardson and Randy Ruiz.
June 16, 2016: At Reading, the Fightin Phils’ win streak reaches 10 games (8 of which the opponent scored first), as they rally from a 3-0 deficit again. Jesmuel Valentin is 3-for-5 with a home run, 2 RBIs and 2 runs. The 5-3 win completes a 3-game sweep of a series that was supposed to be played in Hartford.
June 16, 2023: At Reading, Phillies No. 3 Prospect Griff McGarry only lasts two innings as he walks six Yard Goat batters. It was the first time a Reading pitcher issued six walks since 2017. Oliver Dunn homered twice, in back-to-back at bats, becoming the first R-Phils to do that since Logan O’Hoppe on May 17, 2022 at Somerset.
June 11-16, 2024: At Reading, the Fightin Phils welcome 45,601 fans to FirstEnergy Stadium for the series against the Portland Sea Dogs, which was an average of 7,600 per game. It was the highest total and average for a week in over five years, and since the six-game series format began in 2021. Reading led the Eastern League and all of Double-A in attendance for the week and was fifth in Minor League Baseball. The week featured Brandon Marsh’s rehab, four fireworks shows and a Father’s Day Hawaiian Shirt.
June 17, 1955: At Williamsport, Don Minnick wins his 9th straight game by going the distance for the 8th consecutive time in a 4-1 victory over the Grays. It is also the team pitching staff’s 5th straight complete game victory.
June 17, 1967: At Reading, future Hall of Fame Pitcher Robin Roberts finishes his career with the Reading Phillies, going seven innings but getting a no-decision in the Phils’ 5-4 win. Gene Rounsaville, who would be inducted into Reading’s Baseball Hall of Fame in 2006, squanders a 4-3 lead in the top of the 8th but picks up the win when the Phils get an unearned run in the bottom the inning.
June 17, 1971: At Reading, Mike Schmidt makes his professional debut, playing shortstop for Philadelphia in an exhibition game against the R-Phils. His solo home run to left field in the 7th inning provides the winning run in a 4-3 decision for the big club.
June 17, 1996: At Reading, Canton-Akron raps out 18 hits in a 16-0 destruction of the R-Phils. Reading has just three hits.
June 17, 2001: At Bowie, Reading explodes for 21 hits (4 HR) and scores 17 runs in a 7-inning game. Reading scores six runs in the 4th and eight runs in the 7th. Leadoff man Mickey Lopez hits a HR and has five RBIs. Brian Harris goes 4-for-4 with three runs and an RBI. Eight of the nine starters for Reading have multiple-hit games. Only Uriel Casillas goes hitless.
June 17, 2004: At Erie, Danny Gonzalez hits his first home run of the year, a two-run shot in the 9th inning, to lead Reading past the SeaWolves, 7-5. The Phils had tied the game with two runs in the 8th. Gonzalez winds up 4-for-5 with 3 R and 2 RBI.
June 17, 2016: At Harrisburg, the Fightin Phils win their 11th straight, blanking the Senators, 4-0. Nick Pivetta tosses a complete game shutout (7 H, 3 BB, 5 K), the first 9-inning shutout for a Reading pitcher since August 17, 2014. He also goes 2-for-2 with an RBI and a run as Reading scores all of its runs in the 2nd inning.
June 17, 2018: At Reading, the Fightin Phils end a 6-game losing streak with a 10-7 win over Akron on Father’s Day. Darick Hall goes 2-for-4 with a homer, 3 RBIs and 2 runs while Kyle Martin is 2-for-4 with a double, 3 RBIs and a run. With their 3-run 4th inning, Reading ends a string of 57 straight innings in which they were either behind (49 inn.) or tied (8 inn.).
June 17, 2017: At Binghamton, Scott Kingery is 3-for-5 with a pair of doubles, 2 RBIs, a run and a stolen base in a 7-4 win over the Rumble Ponies.
June 17, 2023: At Reading, the Fightin Phils beat Hartford 8-3, thanks to six-strong innings from David Parkinson. Jhailyn Ortiz homered in his first game back in Reading after coming down from triple-A Lehigh Valley. Carlos De La Cruz homered to extend his on-base streak to 32 games. Johan Rojas stole three bases, a season high for Reading, and becoming the first R-Phil to do it since himself on July 1, 2022 against Somerset.
June 18, 1917: At Circus Maximus, the New York State League Reading Pretzels score seven times in the third inning and go on to beat Harrisburg, 9-6. Playing in Reading for the first time, Bucky Harris singles and scores two runs.
June 18, 2000: At Reading, Eric Valent hits two solo home runs in a 4-2 win over Erie.
June 18, 2004: At Reading, the Phils win in their final at-bat for the third straight game as they take the first game of a double-header, 7-5. Ryan Fleming ties the game with a leadoff homer in the 7th and Ryan Howard wins it with a two-run shot three batters later. Reading completes the DH sweep with an 8-3 win in game two as Howard homers again.
June 18, 2010: At Reading, New Britain rallies for four in the top of the 9th to take an 8-6 lead, but the R-Phils come back with three in their final at-bat to win it, 9-8. Matt Rizzotti’s 2-run homer ties the game and Freddy Galvis’ RBI triple to the gap in right-center brings home Michael Spidale with the game-winner.
June 18, 2012: At Reading, Miguel Abreu’s 1-out single plates Troy Hanzawa with the game-winning run in the bottom of the 10th as the R-Phils rally to beak Akron, 4-3. Justin Friend picks up his second win of the season and extends his scoreless innings streak to 15.2 innings with a perfect 10th.
June 18, 2013: At Reading, Seth Rosin picks up a complete game (7.0 IP) win in game one of a doubleheader vs. Portland. Rosin allows one earned run on three hits and a walk while striking out five in the 4-1 win. While Jesse Biddle would lose twice while pitching complete games, Rosin’s effort would be the only CG victory for a Reading pitcher the entire season.
June 18, 2021: At Harrisburg, starting pitcher Jack Perkins takes the mound for just the second time in his Double-A career, and pitched six quality innings for the winning effort. He allowed just four hits and two walks in a shutout effort, striking out five. Perkins also showed the Senator’s offense what they were suppose to do, as he launched his first homerun of the season in his first at bat. In his first three at bats in Double-A, Perkins now had a homerun and a triple to his name.
June 19, 1988: At Reading, Tony Brown goes 5-for-6 with 4 home runs and drives in nine as the R-Phils sweep Albany, 8-5 and 10-2, in a Sunday afternoon double-header. Brown entered the day with just 2 homers in 152 at-bats. In game 1, Shane Turner’s solo homer (his 1st of the season) ties the game in the bottom of the 7th before Brown ends it with his second long ball, a 3-run shot. The only out Brown makes all day is when he flies out in the 2nd inning of game 2, when according to the Reading Eagle he “just missed another home run”. Greg Legg contributes 4 hits, including his first home run, and 3 RBI on the day
June 19, 1992: At Reading, the Phillies’ first seven hitters single in the bottom of the 1st as they tally seven runs en route to a victory over Hagerstown.
June 19, 2004: At Reading, the Phillies push their winning streak to five games as Franklin Perez and Matt Squires combine to blank Bowie, 8-0. Perez goes seven innings, allowing two hits, no walks and striking out six.
June 19, 2005: At Reading, Jim Deschaine’s sole home run with two outs in the 11th inning gives Reading a 2-1 victory over Harrisburg on Father’s Day.
June 19, 2009: At Reading, Kyle Drabek has his best outing of the season, going 8.0 shutout innings to pick up the win in a 4-0 decision over Harrisburg. Drabek surrenders just four hits while fanning five.
June 19, 2013: At Reading, the Fightin Phils storm back from an early 8-2 hole to stun Portland, 9-8. While Chase Utley’s rehab is the big pre-game story, Jim Murphy steals the show by going 4-for-4 with two homers, a walk, four RBIs and three runs scored. Reading plates the tying run on a wild pitch in the 9th, then wins it in the 10th on Tyson Gillies’ run-scoring single.
June 19, 2018: At Portland, Darick Hall goes 4-for-7 with a double, 4 RBIs and a run scored in a doubleheader sweep (7-1 & 6-5) of the Sea Dogs. Ranger Suarez tosses a complete game in the opener, allowing just one run on 5 hits and 2 walks while striking out 5.
June 20, 1917: At Circus Maximus, Reading sweeps a double-header from Harrisburg, 10-9 and 3-0. In the opener, the Pretzels’ Herbert Armstrong caps a three-run rally with a two-out, two-run single in the bottom of the 9th. The nightcap is shortened to six innings by darkness as John Fox, who is also a Reading police officer, tosses a one-hitter.
June 20, 1926 – 38-year old southpaw Walter Leverenz, the oldest pitcher in the International League, no-hits Reading as Buffalo shuts out the Keystones, 7-0, at Lauer’s Park. A former Chicago White Sox hurler, Leverenz walked two and struck out seven in facing just 29 batters.
June 20, 1967: At Reading, the R-Phils split a double-header with Elmira, winning the opener 4-3 in 15 innings. Charley Shoemaker steals home for the first time in his seven-year career to score the winning run with two outs and two strikes on the batter in the 15th. The Pioneers get revenge in game two as the plate five runs in the 7th for a 7-2 win.
June 20, 1991: At Reading, Pete Rose makes a surprise visit to Municipal Stadium to honor Mike Schmidt on the night Schmidt’s number 24 is retired by the R-Phils. Rose had been banned from Organized Baseball and was not permitted to attend any Major or Minor League games at the time. The R-Phils had planned on retiring Schmidt’s number the season before but the game was rained out. As for the game, Reading’s Sean Ryan hits a 2-run homer in the 8th to break a 4-4 tie and lift the home team to a 6-4 win over Canton-Akron.
June 20, 1992: At Reading, Eric Hill, Scott Wiegandt and Jeff Patterson team up to one-hit Hagerstown, 1-0. Sam Taylor triples home Mike Lieberthal in the 4th with the lone run.
June 20, 1994: At Reading, Bowie beats the Phillies, 8-5, despite David Tokheim and Jon Zuber each collecting four hits.
June 20, 1999: At Reading, Reading tops Portland, 2-1, as Cliff Politte tosses a complete game 3-hitter, striking out five and walking none.
June 20, 2007: At Reading, in the second game of a double-header, the R-Phils beat Binghamton, 3-2, in one of the most bizarre endings of all time. Batting at five minutes past midnight with the bases loaded and two outs in the 7th, Jason Hill hits what looks to be an inning-ending line out to shortstop. But he is awarded first when it is ruled that Hill’s bat nipped the catcher’s mitt of Mike Nickeas. Mike Spidale is forced in from 3rd with the winning run in what the Elias Sports Bureau later determines is the first game in the history of professional baseball to end in a walk-off catcher’s interference. Matt Maloney, who popped up in the 11th inning to end Game 1 as a pinch-hitter, pitched a complete game for the victory in Game 2. Earlier in Game 2, R-Phils’ pitcher Ryan Cameron is ejected by the 1st base umpire for arguing balls and strikes…from the bullpen.
June 20, 2009: At Reading, Brad Lidge gets the start for the R-Phils on Major League rehab assignment, but Joe Savery picks up his 9th straight win as Reading beats Harrisburg, 6-2. Savery also contributes a pair of singles and scores a run, while Michael Taylor’s 5th inning grand slam breaks a scoreless tie.
June 20, 2010: At Reading, Matt Rizzotti homers for the 4th consecutive game and Freddy Galvis hits his first homer of the season, a 3-run shot to break a 4-4 tie in the 8th, as Reading beats New Britain, 7-4, to complete a 3-game sweep.
June 20, 2018: At Portland, Austin Listi is 2-for-4, scores twice and connects for his first Double-A home run, a grand slam, as Reading once again destroys Portland, 12-3. Zach Green rips a triple and a double while driving in 3 and scoring twice. The win gives Reading a 7-1 record at Hadlock Field.
June 20, 2013: At Reading, Maikel Franco makes his Fightin Phils debut and goes 2-for-4 in a 5-2 loss to Portland. It would start an 11-game hit streak for Franco.
June 20, 2023: At Portland, the R-Phils top the Sea Dogs 7-2. Tyler Phillips tossed his second-straight quality start and the bullpen allowed no-earned runs. Matthew Kroon and Casey Martin each chipped in three hits and Oliver Dunn hit a three-run home run to break the game open early. Johan Rojas had four hits and three stolen bases. It was his second three stolen base game in three days and eighth of his career. Four hits tied a career-high he’s done six times in his career and sixth time of his career.
June 21, 2024: At New Hampshire, the Fightin Phils and Fisher Cats game is cancelled and not made up. With both teams eliminated from playoff contention and it being the final week of the first half, there was no need to make up the game. New Hampshire had taken the field and began warm up tossed, then a down pour began, which called off the game.
June 21, 1917: At Circus Maximus, Reading wins its fifth straight and sends Harrisburg to its 16th consecutive defeat as Bucky Harris collects three hits in a 5-3 victory. Harrisburg had been forced to play all its game on the road since they were forbidden to return to their home city by the NY State League.
June 21, 1971: At Pittsfield, Mike Schmidt makes his Reading Phillies debut in a 3-2 loss to the Senators. Schmidt, batting 7th and playing shortstop, goes 2-for-4 and knocks in both R-Phils runs with RBI singles in the 2nd and 6th innings. Only 371 are in attendance to witness his first Minor League game.
June 21, 2000: At Bowie, Carmine Cappuccio goes 4-for-5 with three home runs and 6 RBI in a
13-3 drubbing of the Baysox. Rusty McNamara throws in a 3-for-4, HR, 3 runs, 3 RBI effort for
good measure.
June 21, 2004: At Reading, the Phils rally from a 6-2 deficit to defeat Harrisburg, 7-6, as they
score four runs with two outs in the 9th. Ryan Howard keeps the game alive with a two-run
single, Carlos Ruiz ties it with an RBI single, and Brian Hitchcox singles home Howard for the
game-winner.
June 21, 2005: At Akron, Brian Hitchcox’s two-run home run in the 8th inning rallies Reading past
the Aeros, 2-1. Allen Davis scatters eight hits and one run over eight innings for the win.
June 21, 2013: At Reading, Maikel Franco blasts his first home run in a Fightin Phils uniform, a solo shot in the 4th inning of the Phils’ 5-3 win over Richmond.
June 21, 2017: At Reading, Brandon Leibrandt wins his final start (6.0 IP, 7 H, 2 BB, 4 K) for the Fightin Phils before a June 26 promotion to Triple-A and all 9 Reading starters have at least one hit in an 11-2 win over Akron. Andrew Pullin goes 1-for-4 with a 2-run HR and 2 runs in his final game before being promoted to Lehigh Valley. Chace Numata and Jiandido Tromp both have 3 of Reading’s 18 hits.
June 21, 2018: At Portland, the Fightin Phils improve to 8-1 at Hadlock Field and complete a 4-game sweep with a 9-1 thrashing of the Sea Dogs. JoJo Romero goes 7.0 strong innings, allowing one run on 3 hits and 3 walks while striking out 6 for his 5th win. June 21, 2023: At Portland, Reading beat the Sea Dogs 5-4 as Carlos De La Cruz extended his on-base streak to 35 games. Johan Rojas also had a home run saving catch that was the number-two play on SportsCenter’s Top-10 Plays.
June 21, 2024: At New Hampshire, the Fightin Phils cruise to a 6-2 win over the Fisher Cats. Robinson Pina goes five innings to improve to a team-best 8-2. The bullpen combined to allow one walks and no runs over four innings. The pitching staff also issues no walks. Carson Taylor has the second four-hit game of his career, and Marcus Lee Sang has three hits and a go-ahead home run in the second inning. Carlos De La Cruz had two hits and former Fisher Cat Trevor Schwecke continued his hot week with two doubles against his former team. Additionally, Fightin Phils Development Coach, and acting manager for the week, Karl Ellison is a former Fisher Cat, as well.
June 22, 1953 – At Binghamton, the Indians beat the Triplets, 9-7, as Rocky Colavito hits two home runs and drives in three.
June 22, 1955: At Reading, Don Minnick reaches a perfect 10-0 with a 5-0 shutout of Elmira. It is Minnick’s 9th straight complete game and 3rd shutout of the season. He also helps his own cause by going 2-for-3 with a triple, RBI and run scored.
June 22, 1996: At Reading, Scott Shores hits a 3-run home run in the bottom of the 9th to lift the Phillies past Bowie, 4-3. Shores also accounts for the other Phils run with a solo HR. Carlton Loewer goes the distance for the win.
June 22, 1998: At Reading, Pitcher Evan Thomas homers and allows just one run in eight innings to beat New Haven, 7-1.
June 22, 1999: At Norwich, Adam Eaton, making his Double-A debut, throws an 8-inning no-
hitter and strikes out 12, but loses the game 1-0 as the Navigators’ Jake Robbins tosses a 3-hit
shutout for the home team. Jimmy Rollins collects 2 of the Phillies’ hits, both doubles.
June 22, 2000: At Bowie, the R-Phils beat the Baysox, 4-2, behind Brandon Duckworth’s 8 strong
innings (2 H, 1 R, 10 K) to complete a perfect 10-0 season at Prince George’s Stadium.
June 22, 2004: At Reading, Kevin Barker and John Castellano each smack two home runs to
lead the Phils past Harrisburg, 13-7, for their 8th consecutive win. Barker goes 5-for-5 and
collects 13 total bases (2 HR, 2 2B, 1B) while scoring five and driving in three. Castellano is
3-for-4 with four RBI and two runs. Ryan Fleming goes 3-for-5 with a HR, 3B, 3 RBI and 2 R.
June 22, 2010: At Reading, Domonic Brown goes 3-for-4 with two homers, three RBIs and three runs scored as the R-Phils beat Bowie, 7-5, for their 5th straight victory. Brown would be promoted to Triple-A Lehigh Valley two days later.
June 22, 2016: At Reading, Vince Velasquez gets the win (5.0 IP, 2 H, ER, BB, 3 K) in a rehab start and Mark Leiter, Jr. picks up a 4.0 inning save (3 BB, 2 K) to prevent the Fightin Phils from enduring their first 4-game losing streak of the season. Rhys Hoskins homers and scores twice.
June 22, 2021: At Reading, the R-Phils get no-hit at home by the Binghamton Rumble Ponies. Josh Walker starts for Binghamton, going six innings and only allowing the opposing pitcher Francisco Morales to walk while striking out four. Although just at 79 pitches, Walker has to leave the game after sustaining an injury when he was hit by a pitch in his at bat. Andrew Miller came in emergency relief, and made quick work of the Fightins, going nine up, nine down with one strikeout.
June 22, 2023: At Portland, Reading wins it third-straight game 10-5 over the Sea Dogs. Oliver Dunn homers for the third-straight game, Johan Rojas has his sixth-straight multi-hit game and Carlos De La Cruz reaches base for the 36th-straight game in the win.
June 22, 2024: At New Hampshire, the Fightin Phils rally for a 4-3 win in 11 innings over the Fisher Cats. Baron Radcliff has two hits and two RBI, including a fifth-inning home run and the go-ahead single in the 11th.
June 23, 1919: At Lauer’s Park, the Reading Coal Barons split a double-header with Buffalo,
taking the first game 15-0 and losing the nightcap, 5-3. In game one, Reading breaks a scoreless
tie with three runs in the 7th, then puts the game out of reach with a 12-run barrage in the 8th. The
12-run frame includes three triples, four doubles and four singles. Shortstop Mike Doolan smacks
a pair of two-run triples in the inning. Pitcher Bill Donohue tosses a complete game shutout and
goes 4-for-5 with a triple, double, three runs and two RBIs at the plate. In game two, four
Reading players are ejected in the 8th inning for arguing that the Buffalo pitcher had switched the
game ball. After the game, the fans rushed the home plate umpire, who needed police protection
to get to the clubhouse and hotel safely.
June 23, 1924: LHP Harry Schaeffer is born. Raised in Shillington, Schaeffer pitched 10 years
of pro ball. He made it to the Majors in 1952 when he pitched for the New York Yankees.
June 23, 1953 – At Binghamton, Reading sweeps a double header, 2-0 and 10-1. Billy Harrell hits two home runs and a double, scores three runs, and knocks in five in the second game.
June 23, 1993: At Reading, Jeff Jackson hits a 2-run HR with 2 out in the 13th to lift the Phils over Canton-Akron, 6-5. It was Jackson’s third 13th inning GW-RBI of the season.
June 23, 1997: At Reading, Adan Millan hits two home runs and Tony Costa tosses a complete game in a 6-2 win over Harrisburg.
June 23, 2005: At Akron, the R-Phils complete a four-game sweep of the Aeros with a 9-1 victory. Randy Ruiz goes 3-for-5 with two doubles, two runs scored and four RBIs to lead the way. The first four batter in the Reading lineup (Michael Bourn, Chris Roberson, Ryan Fleming and Ruiz) total 11 hits, 8 runs and 7 RBIs.
June 23, 2010: At Reading, Matt Rizzotti hits his 5th home run in six games and Tagg Bozied, Freddy Galvis and Michael Spidale also go deep as the R-Phils extend their winning streak to six with an 8-3 win against Bowie. Before the game, Dennis Haskins (Mr. Belding from Saved by the Bell) had asked Rizzotti to hit him a homer.
June 23, 2011: At Reading, Tuffy Gosewisch hits his second grand slam of the season to key a 7-run 4th as the R-Phils rally past Erie, 10-3. All nine Phillies in the starting batting lineup have at least one hit and score at least one run.
June 23, 2012: At Bowie, the Phillies sweep a double-header from the Baysox, 3-1 and 4-2. In the opener, Jonathan Pettibone tosses the second and final complete game (7.0 IP, 3 H, 2 BB, ER, 7 K) of the season for Reading. Justin Friend saves his 13th game in 13 chances to nail down the nightcap.
June 23, 2013: At Reading, the Fightin Phils pound Richmond, 14-6, as Maikel Franco goes 4-for-5 with a homer, triple, 4 RBIs and 2 runs scored to lead a 17-hit attack.
June 23, 2016: At Reading, the Fightin Phils win a crazy game on an intentional walk wild pitch in the 11th, 6-5, over Akron. With Jake Fox batting, a passed ball allows runners to move up to 2nd and 3rd with no outs. The RubberDucks elect to walk Fox but the 3-2 pitch from J.P. Feyereisen sails to the backstop and Dylan Cozens scores the winning run. In the 9th, Gregory Infante allows a bunt pop to fall in front of him, then throws to Harold Martinez at third to start a 1-5-6-4 triple play, the first for Reading since 2005 and the first at FirstEnergy Stadium since July 3, 1997. In the 10th, what looks to be a run-scoring wild pitch from Infante bounces off the concrete base of the backstop and right back to Jorge Alfaro as Akron runner Joe Sever is caught in a rundown to thwart the threat. Andrew Pullin goes 3-for-5 with a double and a run in his Fightin Phils debut while Thomas Eshelman gives up 1 run in 5.0 innings and K’s 5 in his Double-A debut. It is the 15th straight win for Reading in which Hoby Milner pitches. Rhys Hoskins hits his 19th HR and second in as many days to pull even with Dylan Cozens for Eastern League lead.
June 23, 2017: At Reading, Herlis Rodriguez homers on the first Double-A pitch he sees in 9-7 win over 1st place Trenton. It would be Rodriguez’s only HR as a Fightin Phil that season (25 AB). Reading had scored just 6 runs total in a 4-game sweep at the hands of Trenton in May, but tallied 7 in the first 2 innings of this game. Scott Kingery goes 1-for-3 with 2 RBIs and 2 runs and ties Carlos Tocci for the Eastern League lead with his 5th triple. Kyle Martin scores twice and drives in a run without an official at bat (2 BB, SF, HBP).
June 23, 2024: At New Hampshire, the Fightin Phils capture their first road-series win of the season in a 5-3 victory over the Fisher Cats. Carlos De La Cruz homers and Carson Taylor drove in two runs to get him to 50 RBI on the season. Five relievers combine to hold the Fisher Cats scoreless over the games final 6.2 innings. Eury Ramos got his second win and Tommy McCollum stayed perfect with his eighth save.
June 24, 1875: The Reading Actives beat the Wilmington Quicksteps, 18-8, in Reading. Wilmington players are stoned by rabid Reading fans on their way to the train station.
June 24, 1919: At Lauer’s Park, George “High Pockets” Kelly swats four home runs and drives in 9 as Rochester beats the Reading Coal Barons, 19-0. Kelly, who would eventually be elected to the National Baseball Hall of Fame, was 5-for-6 and also had a double for the Hustlers.
June 24, 1995: At Bowie, the Baysox hold the Phillies without a run on just four hits in a double-header sweep. Bowie wins 6-0 and 9-0.
June 24, 1997: At Bowie, Adan Millan hits his 3rd and 4th home runs in the last two games and drives in five in the Phils’ 16-5 rout of the Baysox.
June 24, 2004: At Reading, the R-Phils paste Harrisburg, 10-0, to complete a four-game sweep of the Senators and tally their 10th straight win. Ryan Howard hits two home runs in a game for the fourth time in 2004, going 3-for-4 with 4 RBI and 2 R. His second homer travels an estimated 480 feet, landing on top of the hill in center field.
June 24, 2016: At Portland, Andrew Pullin registers another 3-hit game, giving him 6 hits over his first 2 Double-A contests as Reading blasts the Sea Dogs, 11-3. Pullin finishes 3-for-4 with 2 RBIs and 2 runs while Rhys Hoskins goes 2-for-3 with a pair of homers, 3 RBIs and 2 runs scored.
June 24, 2017: At Reading, Mitch Walding delivers his 4th 2-homer game of the month, going 2-for-4 with 3 RBIs and 2 runs in an 8-4 victory over Trenton. Jiandido Tromp homers for the 4th time in 5 games and Carlos Tocci retakes sole possession of the EL lead from Scott Kingery with his 6th triple.
June 24, 2018: At Manchester, Zach Green homers for the 4th straight game and Ranger Suarez wins his final start for Reading in an 8-1 decision over the Fisher Cats. Green, who also drives in a run for the 7th straight game, is named Eastern League Player of the Week (.417, 5 HR, 13 RBI, 8 R). Suarez is EL Pitcher of the Week (2-0, 0.64 ERA, 14.0 IP, 7 K).
June 25, 1999: At Binghamton, Reading uses a 6-run 2nd inning and a 5-run 3rd to outslug the Mets, 13-11. The Phils drew 10 walks in the game.
June 25, 2003: At Reading, Carlos Ruiz (Bob Boone) hits a solo home run in the 8th and Jorge Padilla (Bake McBride) triples home pinch-runner Nate Espy (Del Unser) with two outs in the 9th to lift Reading past Altoona, 2-1, on Retro World Championship Night. Reading wore the Phillies powder blue uniforms from 1980 and the Curve wore the Pirates uniforms from 1979.
June 25, 2005: At Trenton, Randy Ruiz socks two home runs to lead a 5-HR attack in Reading’s 9-3 win over the Thunder. Chris Roberson, Michael Bourn and Ryan Fleming also go deep as all four home run hitters score two runs apiece.
June 25, 2006: At Reading, the Phils pound New Britain, 14-2, as Matt Padgett and Brandon Gemoll each deliver three hits. Padgett doubles, homers and scores three runs while Gemoll scores three times. Gary Burnham goes 2-for-5 with four RBI.
June 25, 2016: At Portland, Andrew Pullin is held to just 1 hit - but it’s his first Double-A home run - as Reading beats the Sea Dogs, 8-4.
June 25, 2017: At Reading, Scott Kingery ends his stint with the Fightin Phils by going 3-for-4 with an RBI in an 8-4 loss to Trenton. Kingery singles in his final 3 at-bats but is wiped off the bases in the 7th when he gets hit by Kyle Martin’s sharp grounder to the right side. Reading has 16 hits but leaves 11 on base. Chace Numata throws out all 3 base stealers, including Thairo Estrada who reaches 0-for-9 in SB attempts.
June 25, 2018: At Reading, Harold Arauz and two relievers combine to shut out Erie, 1-0, scattering 9 hits and 4 walks. The Fightin Phils turn 4 double plays and Erie goes 0-for-9 with runners in scoring position. It is the first time in the 2018 season an opponent had not scored 3 runs or more at FirstEnergy Stadium.
June 25, 2023: At Portland, the R-Phils win just their second series of the season with a 7-3 victory over the Sea Dogs. Nick Podkul comes off the bench after Jhailyn Ortiz is ejected and hits two triples in the contest. Podkul became the first R-Phil to hit two triples in a game since Art Charles on April 24, 2015.
June 25, 2024: At Reading, Lachlan Wells goes seven-strong innings as the Fightin Phils beat Bowie 8-4. It was the second seven-inning outing by a Reading pitcher on the season. Carson Taylor hits his 10th home run of the season and drives in three to get his Double-A best RBI total to 53. Caleb Ricketts homered in his first game off the injured list and Robert Moore added a two-run shot as well.
June 26, 1955: At Reading, the Indians sweep a double-header from Binghamton, 7-1 and 3-2. In game two, shortstop Bobby O’Donnell, in his first action since rejoining the team after quitting a week earlier, raps a two-run single and hits his first home run of the year to drive in all three Reading runs. The homer is a game-ending solo shot in the bottom of the 7th.
June 26, 1967: At Reading, Al Raffo picks up the win and then saves his own game as the Phillies win an interesting 2-1 battle against Pawtucket. With one on and a 1-0 count on the hitter in the top of the 9th, Reading manager Frank Lucchesi elects to bring in Morrie Steevens to create a lefty-lefty matchup. Rather than take Raffo out of the game, Lucchesi moves him to 1st base and first baseman Leroy Reams to third. After Steevens allows a walk and gets an out on a popped up bunt to Reams, Raffo moves back to the mound and Steevens is taken out. Raffo quickly induces a grounder to Reams, who starts a game-ending double play.
June 26, 1994: At Reading, David Tokheim hits a double, triple, and home run, driving in five in a 16-5 thrashing of Canton-Akron. Knuckleballer Dennis Springer throws a 146-pitch, 10-hit complete game for the win.
June 26, 1999: At Binghamton, Larry Huff steals four bases in a 7-5 loss to the Mets.
June 26, 2004: At Harrisburg, Ryan Howard has his fifth multi-HR game of the year and drives in all five R-Phils runs in a 5-4, 10-inning win over the Senators.
June 26, 2006: The Reading Phillies are rained out for the first time in 119 gate openings as heavy downpours wipe out the series finale against New Britain. The streak dated back to July 23, 2004.
June 26, 2011: At Akron, the Aeros plate 10 runs in the bottom of the 1st en route to a 12-2 win over Reading. Akron produces six singles, a double, three walks and a hit batter in their double-digit inning.
June 26, 2015: At Reading, in game 2 of a double-header, Andrew Knapp goes 1-for-4 with a walk and an RBI in his Double-A debut. June 27, 1997: At Reading, Evan Thomas tosses an 8-hit shutout and strikes out nine in a 4-0 win over Portland.
June 27, 2000: At Erie, Carmine Cappuccio’s second homer of the game, a 2-run shot in the 11th, propels the Phils to an 8-6 win. Cappuccio collects 5 RBI on the day and Doug Nickle throws 4.1 innings for the win.
June 27, 2004: At Harrisburg, Ryan Howard goes 3-for-5 with two HR and five RBI for the second straight game, but Reading falls to the Senators, 12-11, in 11 innings. June 27, 2013: At New Britain, Maikel Franco continues his torrid start for Reading by going 3-for-5 with a triple, RBI and 3 runs scored in a 9-2 pasting of the Rock Cats. Franco’s Double-A batting average stand at .500 (17-for-34) after 8 games.
June 27, 2015: At Portland, Brian Pointer explodes for 3 home runs and 5 RBI in an 8-5 win over the Sea Dogs. The game would vault him to EL Player of the Week honors.
June 27, 2016: At Reading, Jake Fox swats a walk-off solo HR in the 9th to give the Fightin Phils an 8-7 win over Erie. Dylan Cozens hits his 20th homer to tie Rhys Hoskins for the league lead and ends up going 2-for-4 with 4 RBIs and 2 runs scored.
June 28, 1992: At Hagerstown, Casey Waller smacks three doubles in a losing cause. The Suns won it, 3-2.
June 28, 1995: At New Britain, David Doster drives in the winning run with a sac fly in the 19th inning of a 5 hour 21 minute marathon. The Phils win it, 3-2, with Larry Andersen as acting manager. Both manager Bill Dancy and pitching coach Bill Robinson are ejected in the 13th inning.
June 28, 1996: At Reading, the Phils sweep a twin bill from Harrisburg, 3-1 and 4-1, with Wayne Gomes saving both games.
June 28, 1999: At Reading, the Phils score a run in the bottom on the 9th to nip Trenton, 11-10. Pat Burrell triples twice and homers, driving in four runs in the process.
June 28, 2003: At New Haven, the Phillies storm back from a 7-3 deficit with five runs in the 9th to stun New Haven, 8-7, for their final victory at Yale Field and their lone win against the Ravens in 2003.
June 28, 2005: At Reading, Ryan Barthelemy’s pinch-hit RBI double in the 9th sends the game to extras, where Jim Deschaine’s second solo homer of the game wins it for Reading, 3-2. It was Deschaine’s second walk-off homer in as many home games.
June 28, 2011: At Altoona, Derrick Mitchell’s 3-run homer caps a 6-run, 2-out comeback in the top of the 9th as the R-Phils beat Altoona, 9-7. The Curve led 6-3 entering the 9th.
June 28, 2013: At New Britain, unlikely power sources Tyson Gillies and Edgar Duran each homer to lead Reading past the Rock Cats and former Reading Phillies pitcher Trevor May. Gillies ends up 4-for-5 with 2 runs and 2 RBIs while Duran goes 3-for-3 with 3 RBIs and 2 runs in the 6-5 victory.
June 28, 2016: At Reading, Thomas Eshelman picks up his first Double-A win, going 5.0 shutout innings (5 H, 2 K) to lead the Fightin Phils to a 7-2 win over Erie. Rhys Hoskins goes 4-for-4 with 2 runs and Jake Fox is 2-for-4 with a homer, 3 RBIs and 2 runs.
June 28, 2017: At Harrisburg, Cole Irvin wins his Double-A debut (though they use Brandon Leibrandt’s head shot on the video board), 9-2 over the Senators: 6.0 IP, 9 H, 2 ER, 5 K. Drew Stankiewicz is 4-for-5 with a double and 2 runs while Jiandido Tromp goes 2-for-5 with a homer and 3 RBIs.
June 28, 2023: At Reading, Richmond shuts out the R-Phils 6-0. It is the first time Reading is shut out in 2023, as they were one-of-two in double-A and one-of-eight in Minor League baseball to not be shutout up to June 28th. It also marks the first time Reading is shut out since Sept. 11, 2022, against New Hampshire.
June 28, 2024: At Reading, The Fightin Phils rode multiple crooked numbers to a 10-3 win on Friday night over the Bowie Baysox. Reading got three runs in the bottom of the second thanks to a three-run home run from Ethan Wilson. The R-Phils then put up five-more runs in the bottom of the fifth in an innings that featured a home run from Marcus Lee Sang and Robert Moore. Reading then added two more in the seventh to jump up 10-3. Robinson Pina went six innings and allowed two runs, with six strikeouts en route to his team-best ninth win of the season. The Fightin Phils put up a season-best eight extra-base hits in the win.
June 28, 2024: At Reading, after hitting three home runs, the Fightin Phils continues their season-high with home runs in 13 games in a row. This comes after also hitting home runs in seven-straight games from June 4-11. The only game since June 4 Reading has not hit a home run in was June 12, so they have homered in 20-of-21 games. The 13-game home run streak is Reading’s longest such streak since homering in 13-straight games from June 21-July 3. of the 2019 season. Dating back to the 2005 season, the Fightin Phils have not homered in 14 games in a row.
June 29, 1997: At Reading, Aaron Royster beats Akron with a 3-run homer in the bottom of the 11th as the Phils win in, 8-6.
June 29, 2003: At New Haven, the Ravens dig out of an early 6-0 hole to defeat Reading on its final trip ever to Yale Field. The Ravens finish the 7-6 comeback with two runs in the 9th, the last of which come on an Alexis Rios RBI single.
June 29, 2005: At Reading, Ryan Fleming’s two-out bunt single brings home Tim Gradoville with
the game-winning run in the 11th inning as the Phils top Akron, 7-6. Ryan Barthelemy’s pinch-hit
RBI single in the 10th had tied the game at 6-6.
June 29, 2009: At Trenton, all nine Reading Phillies starters score at least one run as they bomb Trenton, 12-2. Michael Taylor and Kevin Mahar each have four hits and Neil Sellers drives in four runs to lead the offensive. Joe Savery tosses 6.0 shutout innings, giving up two hits and four walks to secure his 10th straight win.
June 29, 2016: At Reading, Dylan Cozens and Rhys Hoskins both homer to stay tied for EL lead with 21 long balls in a 14-1 pasting of Erie. It is the 9th time that season that both homered in same game. Osmel Aguila and Harold Martinez add homers of their own, with Aguila’s being his first.
June 29, 2017: At Harrisburg, Mitch Walding goes 3-for-4 with 2 RBIs and hits his 13th and final home run of June. Reading wins, 7-1, as Tyler Viza goes 8.0 innings, allowing just 2 hits and one earned run while striking out 8.
June 30, 1953 – At Reading, the Indians sweep a twin bill from Elmira with a couple one-run victories. In game one, Rocky Colavito socks two homers and drives in three in a 5-4, 7-inning win. In game two, the Tribe erases a four-run 9th inning deficit, tying the game at 7-7 on Rudy Regalado’s two-out, three-run triple. Earl Averill, Jr. singles home the winning run in the 10th for an 8-7 win.
June 30, 1955: At Binghamton, Reading turns five double plays to help Don Nance win his sixth consecutive decision as the Indians prevail, 6-3. Frank Tanana drives in a pair of runs with two singles and two doubles, while Dick Brown is 3-for-5 with a double, homer and two runs scored.
June 30, 2000: At Reading, the Phillies top Bowie, 3-2, to complete an amazing 27-5 month.
June 30, 2004: At Reading, in a 10-6 loss to Altoona, Ryan Howard goes 2-for-4 with a solo
home run, wrapping up one of the most prolific months for any player in Reading history. Howard
is the unanimous choice for Eastern League Player of the Month for June as he bats .386
(44-for-114) with 15 HR, 10 doubles, 43 RBI and 28 runs scored.
June 30, 2005: At Reading, every R-Phils starter has at least one hit and Chris Roberson goes
4-for-5 with a double, two runs and an RBI as the Phils beat Akron, 7-4, to complete a three-
game sweep.
June 30, 2008: At Reading, the R-Phils dig an 8-1 hole after an inning and a half, then rally to stun New Britain, 13-8. While Brad Harman’s 2-run single supplies the go-ahead runs in the 7th the comeback is an entire team effort as all nine Phillies starters collect at least one hit a score at least once. It is the club’s biggest comeback since April 23, 1998.
June 30, 2009: At Reading, Kevin Mahar’s 2-out solo home run to left field sends the R-Phils home a winner for the 17th time in June. Altoona had built an early 5-0 advantage and still led 5-4 in the 9th, but Quintin Berry’s RBI triple scored Jeremy Slayden to send the game into extras.
June 30, 2013: At New Britain, Maikel Franco extends his hitting streak to 11 consecutive games as the Phils whip the Rock Cats, 8-2. Franco, whose streak includes 6 multi-hit games, is 3-for-5 with a homer and 3 RBIs. Brody Colvin turns in what is easily his best outing of the season, surrendering only one run on four hits in 8.0 innings.
June 30, 2014: At Reading, the Phils rally from a 6-1 deficit to snap what is believed to be a franchise-record 12-game losing streak. The 7-6 win over New Hampshire does little to slow the team’s freefall however, as they go on to lose their next five.
June 30, 2015: At New Britain, Colin Kleven wins his Fightin Phils debut, going 6.0 innings and giving up just 1 earned run on 3 hits while striking out 4 in a 6-1 victory. It would be Kleven’s only win for the Fightin Phils, but it allowed Reading to pull even with the New Britain in the Eastern Division standings. As late as May 14, the Phils had trailed the Rock Cats by 9.0 games.
June 30, 2016: At Reading, Dylan Cozens and Rhys Hoskins homer in the same game for the 10th time that season to remain tied for EL lead (22 HR). Cozens finishes 2-for-4 with a homer, double, 4 RBIs and 2 runs while Hoskins goes 1-for-5 with a grand slam. Harold Martinez and Osmel Aguila also homer for second straight game. The 13-5 win over Harrisburg gives the Fightin Phils 7 consecutive games with 7 or more runs and they finish with an impressive 23-5 mark in June.
June 30, 2017: At Reading, the Fightin Phils beat Richmond, 9-6, as Mitch Walding goes 2-for-3 with a triple, walk and 2 runs scored to end June with a .337 batting average after hitting .187 over the season’s first 2 months. He would later be named the Eastern League’s Player of the Month.
June 30, 2023: At Reading, the R-Phils come from behind for a 5-3 win over Richmond, thanks to a four-run eighth inning. Nick Podkul hit a go-ahead three-run home run to help Reading secure the win. Previously, the Fightin Phils 2-32 when trailing after the seventh inning in 2023. Matthew Kroon also had two doubles in the win, while Griff McGarry went five-strong innings.
