Sellout Crowd Braves Rain at Avista
Spokane, WA - Indians first baseman Cam Schiller hit his first home run of the 2013 season, but it wasn't enough as Spokane fell to the Salem-Keizer Volcanoes 5-2 on a rainy day at Avista Stadium in front of 6,867 fans on Yoke's Family Feast Night presented by Yoke's Fresh Market and 92.9 ZZU.
Spokane out hit Salem-Keizer nine to seven, but the timely hits never appeared for the Indians as the team went 0 for 8 with runners in scoring position. Schiller's homer extended his hitting streak to seven games, and second baseman Evan Van Hoosier had two hits to raise his team-leading batting average to .256. Left fielder Brandon Garcia was robbed of a home run by Volcanoes right fielder Randy Ortiz.
Collin Wiles, a Texas Rangers 2012 first-round draft pick, allowed three runs and five hits in five innings before being relieved. Abel De Los Santos allowed one run in 2.2 innings and Mike Zouzalik got the final four outs without allowing a single base runner.
Salem-Keizer shortstop Jeremy Sy led the Volcanoes with a two-run home run and three total RBIs on the night.
Tomorrow night, Saturday, August 3rd, will be Fireworks Night presented by The Black Book, 103.9 BOB FM, 790 KJRB and The Splash. The game is SOLD OUT.
