Jefry Marte named IL Player of the Week
The International League announced today that Toledo third baseman Jefry Marte and Durham pitcher Dylan Floro have been named the League's first Batter and Pitcher of the Week for the 2015 season, covering the period from April 9‐12. Marte becomes the first Mud Hens player to be so honored since Ezequiel Carrera (June 30 ‐ July 6, 2014).
JEFRY MARTE, TOLEDO MUD HENS, IL BATTER OF THE WEEK
Only one player in the International League drove in more than five runs over the first four days of the season. In fact, Toledoʹs Jefry Marte had six RBI alone in his Triple‐A debut on Thursday to go along with three hits in a 13‐0 Opening Day victory over Louisville. In his first week with the Mud Hens, Marte hit .308 and scored three runs while helping Toledo to a 3‐1 record out of the gate and an early lead in the IL West Division.
24‐year‐old Jefry Marte is in his eighth season as a professional player. He was signed by the Mets in 2007, and after five Minor League seasons he was dealt to Oakland. Marte spent the majority of the last two seasons with Double‐A Midland, hitting .259 with 10 HR and 53 RBI in 107 games in 2014 before signing with Detroit last November as a free agent. Marte is a native of La Romana, Dominican Republic.
