Tulsa Drillers pitcher Dustin May enjoyed a record-breaking performance on Saturday night, and Monday afternoon he was recognized as the Texas League Pitcher of the Week.
May was close to unhittable on Saturday (June 22) in his start against Amarillo at ONEOK Field. In seven shutout innings, he surrendered just two hits while recording a career high and stadium record 14 strikeouts. In addition, he did not walk a le batter while throwing 72 of his 103 pitches for strikes.
The right-hander, who is ranked as the top pitching prospect in the Los Angeles Dodgers minor league system, finished the outing in style, striking out the final two hitters he faced.
The game was his second start of the week, and he went seven innings in each. For the week, he allowed just 9 hits and 3 runs over 14 total innings, striking out a total of 19 over the two outings. He was unable to pick up an individual win in either game, but he allowed his Drillers teammates to stage late rallies and claim two victories.
