Second Half Roster Shake-up
Brown and Scherzer off to Mobile
The South Bend Silver Hawks and Arizona Diamondbacks have announced the promotion of Brett Anderson to the Visalia Oaks. Brett was selected to the Midwest League All Star Game that took place June 19th. Anderson signed as Arizona's second round selection in the 2006 June Free Agent Draft.
Anderson was dominating the Midwest League this season, going 8-4 through the first half with a 2.21 ERA in 14 starts. He has struck out 85 batters in a shade over 80 innings, and has walked just 10, leading to his outstanding 8.5:1 strike out to walk ratio. He is a ground ball pitcher extraordinaire, as he has given up just 3 home runs all season, and induces 2 ground balls for every fly ball he allows.
On a depressing, yet encouraging note, both Brooks Brown and Max Scherzer have been promoted to Double-A Mobile. After an All-Star berth, Brown will take his sinker to the Southern League, and hopes to continue his solid pitching at a higher level.
Max had been dominant in his three starts in Visalia, allowing just one run over 17.0 innings, and coming within 6 outs of a perfect game in San Jose. The Diamondbacks felt Scherzer was more than ready to make the leap to Double-A, and no one would be surprised to see Max continue his climb before year's end.
The second half starting rotation for the Oaks should consist of newcomer Anderson, Dallas Buck, Matthew Torra, Hector Ambriz, and the reinserted Anthony Cupps.
