SYRACUSE, NY – The Iowa Cubs (20-22) won their first game of the series against the Syracuse Mets (24-16) by a score of 10-4 with the help of four home runs on Thursday night.

After a scoreless first frame, Iowa took the lead in the second inning after plating a pair of runs. Bryce Windham brought home the first run with an RBI single to right field. One batter later, Hayden Cantrelle singled to left field and Brennen Davis came around to score.

Iowa added to its lead in the fourth by way of the long ball. Davis led off the inning with a solo shot and BJ Murray Jr. took one over the right field wall for a two-run homer, making the score 5-0.

In the fifth, Syracuse made a dent into Iowa’s lead with a three-run frame. Michael Brosseau knocked in a run with a double, meanwhile Ji-Man Choi and Luisangel Acuna each added RBI’s with a sacrifice fly and a single.

Iowa retaliated with another two runs to increase its lead to 7-3 in the sixth, however. Murray Jr. went deep again with his second homer of the night; a solo shot this time. A couple batters later, Owen Caissie roped an RBI double into the gap in left center.

Syracuse tallied another run, but Iowa immediately answered to have its lead back at four runs at 8-4. David Bote joined the home run parade with a solo shot of his own over the left field fence.

To close out the game, Iowa added two more runs off a double from Cantrelle and Carl Edwards Jr. recorded the final outs to secure the win.
