The Down East Wood Ducks hosted the Lynchburg Hillcats in game 3 of the series tonight. The Hillcats and the Wood Ducks both started off the game by stranding one base runner. It was quick 2nd inning as both teams went three up, three down. In similar fashion as the first inning, the Hillcats stranded a base runner, and the Wood Ducks got caught stealing 2nd to end the third inning. After three the game was still tied 0-0.

Lynchburg was able to get one run on the board in the 4th inning via fielding error by the Wood Ducks shortstop (Vargas), and three singles back-to-back-to back. The Wood Ducks again were able to get a runner on base, but unable to bring them in. Lynchburg led 1-0 after the fourth inning. The Wood Ducks had a pitching change in the top of the 5th inning. Kohl Drake replaced Paul Bonzagni. Drake retired the first three batters via 2 strikeouts and a groundout. Lynchburg also had a pitching change in the fifth inning with Kyle Scott replacing Jackson Humphries.

The Wood Ducks were able to tie the game at 1-1 with a solo homerun from Torres. Lynchburg strands one in the top of the 6th and the Wood Ducks go three up, three down to end the inning. The Hillcats and Woodies both were not able to get anything going in the 7th. Lynchburg goes three up, three down. The Hillcats had a pitching change in the bottom of the 8th with Wardquelin Vasquez replacing Kyle Scott. Pollard hit a single to shallow centerfield and on the next pitch Pollard stole second. Vargas singled on a line drive to center field, scoring Pollard. Figuereo then singled on a line drive to right field, advancing Vargas to 2nd. Lopez flew out to left field, leaving Vargas and Figuereo stranded. Wood Ducks went up 2-1 after 8 innings. The Hillcats go three up, three down in the 9th inning. Wood Ducks won 2-1.

Vasquez was given the loss after pitching 1.0 inning with 3 hits and 0 strikeouts for the Hillcats. For the Wood Ducks Drake was awarded the win (5.0 IP, 2 H, 10 K).

The Wood Ducks host the Lynchburg Hillcats for game 5 tomorrow at Historic Grainger Stadium located in Kinston, North Carolina. First pitch is set for 7:00 pm. Gates open at 6:00 pm. Join the Wood Ducks for Women in Sports night including a pregame panel from ECU coaches/trainers, former NC State soccer player/Canadian National Team player and Wood Ducks front office staff. The first 1,000 fans will receive a pink Wood Ducks visor presented by Lenoir Community College.
