SYRACUSE, NY – Two home runs from the Syracuse Mets (24-15) and water from the Syracuse sky spelled a 4-0 loss for the Iowa Cubs (19-22) in a rain-shortened game that was called before the start of the bottom of the sixth inning.

Iowa jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the second inning on back-to-back homers from outfielder Brennen Davis and third baseman BJ Murray Jr. Davis’ home run, which also plated catcher Ali Sanchez after he doubled, was his third in the last three games and his fourth in his last five contests. He’s the first I-Cub to homer in three consecutive games since Jared Young last season. It was Davis’ fifth homer of the year. Murray’s solo blast was his third of the year and first since April 19.

Syracuse countered with three of its own in the bottom of the second on an RBI double from Michael Brosseau and a two-run shot one batter later by Yolmer Sánchez.

The Mets added another long ball in the fifth when Hayden Senger's solo shot made it 4-3.

Iowa Cubs starting pitcher Thomas Pannone was making his way out to the mound for the bottom of the sixth when the game was delayed and eventually called due to rain.

POSTGAME NOTES:
