The Biloxi Shuckers beat the Tennessee Smokies 5-3 in game one of a six game series on Wednesday night.

The Smokies (11-10) scored the game's first run in the second inning on a Josh Rivera triple, but their only lead was very brief.

The Shuckers (12-10) got two in the third on a Carlos Rodriguez base hit and went on to score five unanswered.

Tennessee picked up two in the sixth on three consecutive hits to start the inning but could not scratch across any more.

Brandon Birdsell (2-2) started for Tennessee, allowed four runs in five and third innings and took the loss.

Blake Weiman and Eduarniel Nunez both tossed scoreless innings.

These two teams will meet at Smokies Stadium tomorrow night for a doubleheader with first pitch of game one scheduled for 5:30 p.m. ET.
