Summary

The Akron RubberDucks rally back from 4-1 down to defeat the Richmond Flying Squirrels 9-4 behind a combined four hits and five RBI from Milan Tolentino and Micael Ramirez on Saturday night at Canal Park.

Turning Point

After a grand slam in the top of the second gave Richmond the lead, Akron started the comeback in the bottom of the fourth. Joe Naranjo opened the inning with a single before coming around to score on a triple by Tolentino to cut the Flying Squirrels lead down to 4-2. Ramirez lined a single between short and third to drive home Tolentino and cut the lead Richmond lead to 4-3. Two batters later, Petey Halpin singled home Ramirez to tie the game at 4-4.

Mound Presence

Jaime Arias allowed the grand slam with two outs in the top of the second, but settled in quickly after to keep Richmond scoreless the rest of the way. In total, the Akron lefty tossed five innings allowing the four runs while striking out eight. Jack Leftwich struck out five over two hitless innings. Erik Sabrowski tossed a scoreless eighth with two strikeouts. Andrew Walters struck out two in a scoreless ninth.

Duck Tales

Akron jumped ahead in the bottom of the first as Kody Huff lifted a sac-fly to left to score Christian Cairo and make it 1-0 RubberDucks. After Akron tied the game in the fifth, the RubberDucks exploded for the lead in the sixth. Back-to-back walks by Naranjo and Dayan Frias set up a Tolentino RBI single to give Akron the 5-4 lead. Ramirez kept the inning going singling home Frias and Tolentino to stretch Akron’s lead to 7-4. The RubberDucks added insurance in the eighth as Naranjo and Frias each picked up RBI singles to make it 9-4 Akron.
