Curve Drop Back-and-Forth Affair to Senators

HARRISBURG, Pa. – Tsung-Che Cheng knocked a go-ahead home run in the seventh inning for the Curve on Tuesday night, but the Harrisburg Senators responded with two late runs as Altoona dropped its tenth-straight game, 3-2, at FNB Field.

With Altoona trailing 2-1 in the seventh inning, Harrisburg went to its bullpen with Samuel Reyes, who allowed a lead-off single to Jase Bowen before Cheng hit his second home run of the season to give the Curve its first lead of the game.

The Senators responded with a solo home run from Robert Hassell III in the bottom of the seventh inning off of Justin Meis, and three base hits in the bottom of the eighth off of Chris Gau to score the go-ahead run.

Bubba Chandler went 4.1 in the start for Altoona, allowing one run on three hits with a walk and four strikeouts. The lone score came on a Brady House home run in the bottom of the fourth inning. Meis struck out five in relief over 2.1 frames before Gau took the loss after striking out one in 1.1 innings.

Harrisburg starter Michael Cuevas held Altoona scoreless over six innings with nine strikeouts and only three base hits allowed. Reyes earned the win with two innings of relief before Orlando Ribalta worked two strikeouts in a scoreless ninth inning for his first save of the season.

Kervin Pichardo extended his hitting streak to 10 games in the loss for Altoona, tied for the third-longest streak in the Eastern League this season.

The loss continued Altoona’s longest streak since losing 10 games in-a-row from May 24 – June 3, 2014. The longest losing-streak in franchise history is 11 games, which occurred in 2000.

Altoona continues its seven-game series with the Harrisburg Senators, Double-A affiliate of the Washington Nationals, on Wednesday at 12:00 p.m. Altoona will send RHP Sean Sullivan to the mound to face LHP Andrew Alvarez for Harrisburg.
