CLEARWATER, FL — A pair of home runs by Devin Saltiban were the difference as the Bradenton Marauders dropped the series finale 5-3 to the Clearwater Threshers on Sunday afternoon at BayCare Ballpark.

For the third straight game, the Marauders offense plated the game’s first run in the fourth inning against Mavis Graves (2-1). After Omar Alfonzo began the frame with a double to left field, Garret Forrester hit a line drove off Graves’ leg which was kicked into left field to score Alfonzo and push the Marauders in front at 1-0. With the double by Alfonzo, he extended his hitting streak to seven games, the longest by a Bradenton hitter this season.

The Threshers took their first lead of the contest after a three-run fifth inning. Khristian Curtis (0-2) hit Nikau Pouaka-Grego to begin the frame before issuing a flyout to Luis Caicuto. After walking AJ Shaver, Curtis departed, and Inmer Lobo entered out of the bullpen. Both runners advanced on a passed ball before Pouaka-Grego scored on a balk from Lobo to tie the game. Later in the at-bat for Trent Farquhar, he crushed a two-run home run to right field to push the Threshers ahead at 3-1.

The Marauders answered with a run in the sixth. Esmerlyn Valdez doubled to begin the inning and later scored on a ball hit to deep centerfield by Shalin Polanco that was dropped by AJ Shaver to trim the Threshers lead to 3-2.

Against Lobo, Saltiban then clubbed a solo-home run to left field to pad the Clearwater lead back to two at 4-2. Once more, the Marauders answered with a run in the eighth on a sacrifice fly from Polanco to cut the lead down to 4-3. Saltiban crushed a solo-home run again, this time off Tyler Kennedy in the bottom of the eighth to close out the game’s scoring.

Saul Teran (SV,4) tossed two scoreless frames out of the bullpen for the Threshers to close out the game, as Clearwater takes five out of the six games from Bradenton.

After an off day on Monday, the Marauders travel back to LECOM Park to open a 12-game homestand against the Fort Myers Mighty Mussels and the St. Lucie Mets. First pitch on Tuesday against the Mighty Mussels is scheduled for 6:30 p.m., with pregame coverage beginning at 6:10 p.m. on the Marauders Broadcast Network.
