(UPTOWN CHARLOTTE, NC) -- Second baseman Lenyn Sosa’s two-run home run in the bottom of the third inning propelled the Charlotte Knights to a 4-3 win over the Memphis Redbirds in the opening game of a six-game series from Truist Field in Uptown Charlotte, NC on Tuesday night. The win was Charlotte’s seventh over their last 10 games.

Since returning to the Knights from the Chicago White Sox on April 23, Sosa has homered in four of his last five games. Tuesday’s home run was his fifth of the season. Over his last five games, Sosa is hitting .348 (8-for-23) with four home runs and 10 RBI.

RHP Mike Clevinger started the game for the Knights and was solid on the evening. Clevinger allowed just two runs over four innings of work in his second start of the season with the Knights. RHP Chad Kuhl (1-1, 4.81) earned the win in relief of Clevinger. Kuhl allowed just one run in four hits over five remarkable innings. The only run he allowed came in the top of the ninth inning.

Memphis catcher Nick Raposo got the Redbirds on the scoreboard in the top of the second inning on a two-run home run off Clevinger. In the bottom of the second, the Knights battled back to tie the game. First baseman Carlos Pérez drew a bases-loaded walk for Charlotte’s first run of the night. Catcher Chuckie Robinson scored the second run of the game when designated hitter Mark Payton hit into a double play.

The Knights will continue the six-game home series against the Memphis Redbirds (Triple-A affiliate of the St. Louis Cardinals) on Wednesday morning from Truist Field in Uptown Charlotte, NC.
