Wilmington, Del. (May 2, 2024) — The Hudson Valley Renegades fell to the Wilmington Blue Rocks 4-1 on Thursday night at Frawley Stadium.

Hudson Valley took an early lead in the top of the third when Cole Gabrielson walked, went first-to-third on a Kyle Battle single, and scored on a wild pitch by Riley Cornelio to put the Gades in front 1-0.

Wilmington answered back in the bottom of the third to tie the game on a solo home run by Paul Witt to left off Sebastian Keane. The right-hander allowed four runs on five hits in 4.1 innings while walking four and striking out four in the game.

The Blue Rocks gained the lead in the bottom of the fifth when Kevin Made and Witt hit back-to-back doubles to lead off the frame. Brandon Boissiere drove in Witt with a single, and scored two baters later on a T.J. White sacrifice fly to extend the lead to 4-1.

Joel Valdez replaced Keane (1-3) and turned in 3.2 stellar scoreless innings of relief, striking out a season-high seven batters. In six relief appearances this season, the left-hander has struck out 19 batter and walked only four in 15.0 innings and sports a 1.80 ERA.

The Renegades threatened in the final innings of the game, but were unable to break through against the Blue Rocks bullpen, stranding four runners on base in the final three innings of the game.

Jace Avina had the best night at the plate for the Gades, finishing 1-for-2 with a double and two walks, extending his on-base streak to 12 consecutive games.
