Captains Continue 13-Game Homestand with Six Games versus Dragons

Lake County and Dayton are set to play games one through six of their 18-game regular-season series this week.

EASTLAKE, OH – The Lake County Captains look to extend their three-game winning streak when they welcome the Dayton Dragons, the High-A Affiliate of the Cincinnati Reds, to Classic Auto Group Park this Tuesday through Sunday for the final six games of a 13-game homestand. EASTLAKE, OH – The Lake County Captains look to extend their three-game winning streak when they welcome the Dayton Dragons, the High-A Affiliate of the Cincinnati Reds, to Classic Auto Group Park this Tuesday through Sunday for the final six games of a 13-game homestand.

STANDINGS

  • The Captains (16-11) sit in second in the Midwest League East, trailing the first place Great Lakes Loons, the High-A Affiliate of the Los Angeles Dodgers, by two games.
  • The Dragons (12-15) are third in the Midwest League East, sitting six games out of first place and four games behind Lake County for second place.

LAST SERIES

  • The Captains won five of seven games in its second series of the season against the Fort Wayne TinCaps, the High-A Affiliate of the San Diego Padres. Lake County won the first two games in walk-off fashion, lost both games of a doubleheader on Thursday, and won the final three contests this past Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.
  • Dayton split its six-game home series against the West Michigan Whitecaps, the High-A Affiliate of the Detroit Tigers, winning games three, four, and five.

  • INF/OF C.J. Kayfus ranks top-eight in the Midwest League in batting average (.356, second), slugging percentage (.589, third), OPS (1.018, third), RBI (20, tied for sixth), and on-base percentage (.429, eighth). The 2023 third-round pick also owns the Midwest League’s fourth-lowest strikeout rate (13.9%).
  • INF Alex Mooney, MLB Pipeline’s No. 20 Cleveland prospect, leads the Midwest League and ranks third in all of High-A with a .593 slugging percentage. The 2023 seventh-round pick also ranks top-nine in the Midwest League in extra-base hits (14, tied for first), home runs (five, tied for third), doubles (nine, tied for third), OPS (.952, eighth), total bases (51, tied for third), and batting average (.314, tied for ninth).
  • OF Guy Lipscomb batted a team-best .500 (9-for-18) in the Captains’ series against Fort Wayne this past week. In Lake County’s 10-1 win this past Saturday, the 2022 fifth-round pick recorded a Minor League-high four hits, his most in a game since April 3, 2022 versus Purdue while at Belmont.
  • RHP Austin Peterson went 1-0 with 13.2 shutout innings in two starts against the TinCaps this past week. He now leads the Midwest League with 34.2 innings pitched, while ranking second with 36 strikeouts and fourth with a 2.08 ERA.
  • RHP Carter Spivey has recorded two straight quality starts on April 26 at West Michigan and May 2 versus Fort Wayne. In those starts, he went 1-1 with a 2.25 ERA, the 10th-best in the Midwest League during that span.

  • RHP Rhett Lowder, MLB Pipeline’s No. 2 Cincinnati and No. 30 overall prospect, ranks fourth in the Midwest League in opposing batting average (.191), tied for fifth in WHIP (0.95), eighth in ERA (2.49), and eighth in strikeouts (29). He was named the Midwest League Pitcher of the Week on April 28 after a quality start at Lansing on April 26.
  • INF Cam Collier, MLB Pipeline’s No. 7 Cincinnati prospect, leads all of High-A with seven home runs. The 2022 first-round pick also ranks fourth in the Midwest League in slugging percentage (.588) and ninth in OPS (.948).
  • OF Jay Allen II, MLB Pipeline’s No. 25 Cincinnati prospect, is batting .400 (14-for-35) over his last nine games since April 26. Among Midwest League hitters with 50+ plate appearances, Allen has posted the highest slugging percentage (.688) and second-highest OPS (1.118).
  • OF Hector Rodriguez, MLB Pipeline’s No. 13 Cincinnati prospect, ranks third on the team with a .305 batting average. Rodriguez is High-A’s toughest hitter to strikeout, posting a 7.3% strikeout rate.
  • INF Sal Stewart, MLB Pipeline’s No. 6 Cincinnati prospect, is batting .278 (25-for-90) with nine extra-base hits and 13 RBI, while ranking tied for third in the Midwest League with 22 runs scored.
