Lynchburg Wins Series as Ralphy Blasts Two Home Runs

The Lynchburg Hillcats took the series over the Kannapolis Cannon Ballers with their 5-3 victory on Sunday afternoon.

After dodging the rain, Lynchburg pitching delivered a masterful performance, holding Kannapolis at bay for much of the afternoon. Ralphy Velazquez picked up two home runs in the process.

In the bottom of the first inning, Jaison Chourio stayed red-hot with an RBI single that scored Tommy Hawke. Kannapolis would match it in the second inning on an Edrick Felix sacrifice fly, tying things up at one.

The game would remain tied until the bottom of the sixth inning when Ralphy Velazquez would deliver his first of two home runs, a solo shot to right field. A few batters later, Manuel Mejias drove in a run with a sacrifice fly to give Lynchburg a 3-1 advantage.

In the bottom of the eighth, Velazquez would touch ‘em all again with a second solo shot to right field. For Velazquez, it was his second multi-home run game of his Lynchburg career. The Hillcats would strike again with a double steal executed to perfection that scored Chourio.

Kannapolis would cut the deficit in half in the top of the ninth inning on a Wilber Sanchez two-run blast, but that would be as close as they would get. They would bring the tying run to the plate, but Josh Harlow shut the door on the comeback as Lynchburg closed out the twelve-game homestand with a win.
