Reading Welcomes Hartford to Kickstart 2024 Contest

(Reading, PA) - The Fightin Phils (11-16) open their third home series of the season on Tuesday vs the Hartford Yard Goats, (14-10) the Double-A affiliate of the Colorado Rockies. Reading and Hartford played 24 games last season as the Fightins took the season series 14-10.

The Fightins return to FirstEnergy stadium after dropping five of six games to the Portland Sea Dogs on the road last week. Last Saturday, Reading won game one of a doubleheader, 13-4 vs Portland. In the game, they scored 13 runs on twelve hits. Carson Taylor also drove in a career-high 5 RBI in the game. In the series finale vs Portland, Lachlan Wells pitched a scoreless outing going six innings, allowed four hits, one walk, and struck out four. Max Lazar remains the only Fightins pitcher to not allow an earned run, walk, or any hitters this season. Two Fightin Phils received call-ups to Triple-A Lehigh Balley over the weekend. Pitcher, Beau Burrows joined the IronPigs and threw 1.1 scoreless innings on Saturday night. Additionally, Jim Haley was called up to Allentown to fill the spot left by Kody Clemens, who rejoined the Phillies due to Trea Turner's injury.

The Yard Goats come to Reading with a 14-10 record, after dropping a series to Binghamton last week. Hartford finished 57-76 last season. Eleven of the Rockies' top-30 prospects are on Hartford's roster including Adael Amador (1), Yanquiel Fernandez (3), Sterlin Thompson (5), Zac Veen (6), Benny Montgomery (10), Ryan Ritter (13), Carson Palmquist (15), Warming Bernabel (17), Mason Albright (22), Jaden Hill (28) and Connor Van Scoyoc (30).

RHP Noah Skirrow gets the start for Reading on Tuesday, and he will go opposite RHP Connor Van Scoyoc for Hartford. On Wednesday Efrain Contreras will make his fourth start of the season for the Fightins vs. Carson Palmquist, and on Thursday Matt Osterberg will face Jarrod Cande. Lachlan Wells takes the mound Friday against Andrew Quezada. On Saturday, Christian McGowan will take the ball against Mason Albright. In Sunday's series finale, Robinson Pina and Van Scoyoc will match up on the hill.
