Ragsdale throws scoreless start but Squirrels drop finale

The Flying Squirrels (11-10) won four-of-six in this week’s series against the Baysox (11-10).

Carter Howell gave the Flying Squirrels a 2-0 lead with a two-run single in the bottom of the fourth inning.
Carson Ragsdale threw five scoreless innings and allowed three hits with no walks and five strikeouts. Richmond starters have combined for 17 consecutive scoreless innings over the last three games.
In the top of the sixth, Samuel Basallo hit a two-run homer against Richmond reliever Reggie Crawford (Loss 1-1) to tie the score. Three batters later, Frederick Bencosme moved the Baysox ahead, 3-2, with an RBI single.
Basallo added another homer, a solo shot, in the top of the eighth to extend the Bowie lead to 4-2.
Carlos Tavera (Win, 2-0) worked the final five innings for the Baysox without allowing a run. He finished his outing with six strikeouts.
The Flying Squirrels head to Ohio to open a six-game series against the Akron RubberDucks, Double-A affiliate of the Cleveland Guardians, on Tuesday. Right-hander Ryan Murphy (1-1, 2.12) will start. First pitch is scheduled for 6:35 p.m. at Canal Park.
