Opened in time for the 1997 season, Joseph P. Riley, Jr. Park remains one of the premier atmospheres in Minor League Baseball. Named after the city's longest-serving mayor, "The Joe" is the home of the RiverDogs and The Citadel baseball team.

The facility is named after the long-time former mayor of Charleston, Joseph P. Riley, Jr. Mayor Riley, an avid baseball fan. He is one of the city's great promoters of the game of baseball, and despite his objections, city council voted unanimously to name the facility in his honor.

The facility is unique in several ways. Its uniqueness stems from the relationships fostered by the City of Charleston, the state of South Carolina (The Citadel) and a private enterprise (RiverDogs).

Riley Park was designed by Populous of Kansas City, MO., known primarily for their work at Oriole Park at Camden Yards (Baltimore), Jacobs Field (Cleveland) and Coors Field (Denver), among many others.

With the addition of the Riley Park Club--now known as the Segra Club-- in 2017, the ballpark got its first major addition since the stadium was built.

0: On July 8, 2002, "Nobody Night" set the record for lowest official single game attendance. It is still considered one of the premier promotions in Minor League Baseball history.

2: Charleston baseball players to reach the Baseball Hall of Fame: Roberto Alomar and Kiki Cuyler

3: RiverDogs pitchers (Janson Junk, Austin DeCarr, Daniel Alvarez) who combined to no-hit the Delmarva Shorebirds on August 15, 2018.

4: Home runs in one game by Mike Ford, in a 17-10 victory over Hickory in May 2014.

14: The uniform number of Larry Doby is the only number retired in the organization. Doby, born in Camden, SC, was the first African-American player to play in the American League.

25: The home run record total in a season for Charleston pro baseball, set by Mark Pirreccello in 1983 and matched by Justin Schuda in 2001 and Delmon Young in 2004.

35: The number worn by Aaron Judge, Gary Sanchez, and Jesus Montero during their time in Charleston. All three went on to play for the New York Yankees.

38: Consecutive games with a hit by Mitch Hilligoss in 2007. It set the modern day Minor League Baseball record.

92: The amount of stolen bases by Alex Sanchez in 1997, which led the South Atlantic League.

116: RBI total for Delmon Young in 2004, which led the South Atlantic League.

175: In 2018, the RiverDogs celebrated "175 Seasons in Dog Years" to commemorate the 25th season of RiverDogs baseball.

.343: Cliff Pastornicky batting average in 1982, which led the South Atlantic League and still stands as the team record.

1,102: Total pounds of colored powder ordered for the 2018 promotion "Joseph P. Riley, Jr.: The Amazing Technicolor Ballpark" (more commonly referred to as "Color Night"). The promotion was nominated for the 2018 Promotion of the Year.

1886: The beginning of professional baseball in Charleston. The Seagulls take the field as members of the Southern League.

1998, 2000, 2004 and 2012: Riley Park hosted the South Atlantic League All-Star Game.

2000 and 2017: Bob Freitas Award for Best Class A Baseball Organization, as recognized by Baseball America

2009, 2011, 2012, 2014, and 2017: Under the direction of former head groundskeeper Mike Williams, The Joe was recognized as South Atlantic League Playing Surface of the Year.

2012: The Charleston RiverDogs won Golden Bobblehead Awards for the Best Overall Promotion and Best Non-Game Day Event for hosting the first round of the 2012 South Atlantic League All-Star Game Home Run Derby contest on the flight deck of the USS Yorktown. The June 18 home run derby held on the USS Yorktown was round one of the contest. The 10 SAL all-stars each got 10 swings in an inflatable batting cage that was set up on the ship's flight deck. Staffers on jet skis in Charleston Harbor retrieved the baseballs and the Coast Guard assisted in determining the distance of the longest hit balls. The final round of the contest took place the following evening before the SAL All-Star Game at Riley Park.

4,025: The number of cans of Silly String used on April 22, 2017 to set a world record. One of the most fun and colorful nights in the history of the ballpark (see video here) left everyone smiling-- even the stadium operations director.

8,255: Fans in attendance for Alex Rodriguez's rehab assignment game in July 2013.

8,426: The single-game attendance record set on April 5, 2007.

234,840: Inaugural season attendance at The Joe. The RiverDogs set a new single-season attendance record at the time.
